Sacagawea's in Ecuador!
January 30, 2008, 05:33:35 PM
Here is a quote from a "CoinValues" magazine that came today:
"Much as the Anthony dollar suffered rejection, the Sacagawea dollar coin, introduced in 2000, failed to catch on with Americans still happily wedded to the $1 bill. In Ecuador however, the Sacagawea dollar is a hit!
Beginning in 2002, the U.S. Federal Reserve shipped millions of unused Sacagawea dollar coins to the South American nation. Given legal tender status by the Ecuadorian government, the Sacagawea dollar sees plenty of circulation in the country of 13.5 million. Why? Not only do the coins last longer than paper money in Ecuador's humid, tropical environment, the people of Ecuador identify with the image of Sacagawea on the obverse of the coin - in their eyes a true-to-life image of an Ecuadorian Indian women."

American Indian Natives deserve far better than just a coin, I agree this is a beautiful dollar, but after what we did to them and continue to do at the govt level in DC, we should all pay them more than a coin, but reparations to boot.

Thank you for the offer of reparations, but if everybody that was ever wronged anyway got reparations we would all be broke, and not rich.  Think of all of our ancestries, most if not all of us had some forcible movement, the Aussies were forced out of Britain, Indians moved out west, or dead, LDS kicked out of Illinois, then Missouri etc.  My Scottish ancestors had to leave Scotland after the '45, then came to the USA and got into a scrape again with the English during the Revolution.  I believe the suffering of our ancestors builds character if you let it.  It sure doesn't make you a pushover.

They make alot off all those casinos. Unfortunately I think there are thousands of native americans not getting a share of that cash.

Maybe we should look into the D I A (Dept of Indian Affairs) and fnd out what happened to the billions (With a CAPITAL B) of dollars that it seems, has "Lost" many records pertaining to the Indians leases of their lands for oil and mining since the 1880s. Hmmm, sound like the social security's 'Borrowed' funds.
