It commemorates the Bashkortostan(Bashkir) Republic, it is a AR(Autonomous Republic) not too far from Chechenya Republic in the South of Russia.

Sir Renal:
Russia has issued several Bimetalic coins with lot of themes.
The City View types are very interesting.
They are similar to City View 'Thalers' of German States.    Ms.Kitty, if your Coin Dealer friend has any of them, please buy one for me.  Thanks
George

It is by giving others, we actually receive from G

I will have to admit things have changed the last few years as it was very tough until the internet came along to get your hands on some of the Russian coins (Soviet Union).  At least it was over here. I went to great lenghts in 2002 and 2003 to get my paws on some silver commemoratives and now it seems it can be done with out much effort. I actually had a collector in Belarus who explained to me how he could smuggle silver commemoratives out of the country and they changed hands quite a few times before a family member in the U.S. send them on to the final recipient. Got to give them credit for their efforts in the past!

Thank you, CC.  I would like to -think- that I have a "fabulous" world coins collection.  I have to admit, I've come into some really nice deals lately, thanks to the coin store I frequent.  Only one of the employees there enjoys world coins at all, or really even knows what some of the pieces mean.

I know world coins fascinate me.  Each and every one is so different, so fascinating.  They come with pretty pictures on them that aren't dead American presidents. (Unless it's Liberia or the Cook Islands).  Animals, plants, insects, places, people... art.  Modern coins are interesting for their design and beauty.  But the old coins interest me the most, with their implied history.  It's hard to hold a spanish silver dollar and not imagine the sails flying overhead, the buccaneers, the chinese trade, the jungles of South America.  God alone only knows where some of these coins might have been!

Do add this coin to my collection?
