New €20 Note
November 30, 2015, 06:30:53 AM
On 25-Nov-2015, the new €20 Euro banknote (Europe Series) entered circulation in the Euro Zone. Today, I got my first one in change.

The serial number (more precisely, the first letter of it: R ) shows it was printed at Bundesdruckerei in Berlin. There are reports at German coin forums that €20 notes printed at Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig (W) and Munich (X) have also been found. The factory in Munich has been closed a couple of months ago. So, no more new 10s and 20s with the prefix ''X'' in the future.

Sorry about the double post.

We are now 2 months in, and the new €20 notes are already in the majority in circulation here in Germany. At least, in my neck of the woods. I'd say 55-60%.
That's a bit surprising. But it seems the ECB wants to withdraw the first series rather quickly because the €20 is a denomination that's ''often'' forged.

Ralf, did you find any of the W and X prefixes yet?

If found one ''XA,'' no but ''W'' yet.
Had a ''SF'' (Italy) and a ''UE'' (France) though.
But, for now, ''R'' dominates here where I'm living.
