Finds at the NWDCC Show 11/3/2013

The Northwest Detroit Coin Club Fall Show was held today. I picked up a few odds & ends that I would like to share with ya'll! The first is this 5000 Kuna banknote from Croatia dated 1943. P#13

Next is this Russian 3 Rubles banknote from 1938 P# 214

The next pair of notes are interesting. Ecuador 10 Sucres, both dated May 20, 1971. I bought them both because I noticed that even though the dates are the same the signatures on both notes are different, as well as the placement of the series letters on the obverse. When I got them home, using a magnifying glass, I noticed that the top note was printed by the American Banknote Co., which makes this note P#101Ab. The note on the bottom was printed by Thomas De La Rue, which makes this note P#114a. Also under magnification, I noticed on the top note that Mr. Benalcazar's mouth is OPEN, while on the bottom note his mouth is CLOSED. Also on the reverse side of the top note, you will see that the central design is much LARGER than the central design on the bottom note. Also the eagle's (or whatever they are!!) perched atop the design are different as well. To the casual observer these 2 notes would look alike, but sometimes I think that a little closer look will reveal subtle differences. That's the fun of the hobby to me!     I also just noticed as I posted this, that if you look below the serial numbers on the obverse, you will see that the design around the "10" is different as well on both notes!

Found a beautiful coin of Greece, a one year type, 30 Drachmai, 1964. Mintage: 1 million. KM# 87

About notes from Ekvador it is very interested. I like watch small diferents on coins too.

Thanks everyone! Steve, I really like the reverse of the Greek coin with the double-headed eagle. I think it's neat! That was the sole reason I bought the thing!

SECOND IS A SILK FLAG THAT WAS INSERTED INTO CIGARETTE PACKS HOPING TO ATTRACT LADIES----MANY WERE COLLECTED AND SEWN INTO TABLE RUNS
THIRD IS A NICE CRISP SEQUENTIAL RUN OF $2 BILLS..........

FINALLY THIS IS MY LAST ENTRY IT IS A SHEET OF HOBO NICKELS THAT I WAS GOIG TO TRY AND SELL BUT LEFT AT HOME BY ACCIDENT------DID I MENTION THAT I FORGET A LOT?

The Russian coins Joe posted came from me. I had several uncirculated duplicates from the 60's that Joe & I agreed to swap at the show. I chose this beautiful NGC 1883 Morgan dollar in MS63. It was one of the nicest Morgans he had for sale at his table, so now it resides in my collection! Thanks Joe!!

Also picked up this beauty from another dealer for $15. 1995 Gibraltar 5 Pound V-E Day commemorative in Proof 67 Cameo. Not bad for the price!

I DID NOT SEE THE GIBRALTER 5 POUNDER---JOHN GETS TO MANY SHOWS AS EARLY AS HE CAN TO KIND A LOOK OVER THE PICKINGS THEN HE RETURNS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND MAKES SOME GREAT PURCHASES---HIS TITLE "NIGHTHAWK" IS WELL SUITED TO THIS COIN HUNTER.............I DON'T THINK HE MISSES MUCH AND IT IS A RARE SHOW WHEN I CAN BEAT HIM TO AN ITEM...........

And for my lovely granddaughter Samara I picked up this Greek 5 Drachmai 1973  KM# 109.1    Samara has a great fondness for Pegasus! I think she will like this coin!!
