I COLLECT MANY THINGS AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE TURNED UP ARE DEPRESSION NOTES---THESE ARE PRINTED BY COMPANIES...BANKS..CITIES---ALL TO INCREASE BUYING AND SAVE SLIDING MORE INTO DEPESSION...

  THREE ITMS I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ARE FROM MY COLLECTION:

THE FIRST IS THE $10 CERTIFICATE ISSUED IN OSWEGO, KANSAS BY A BANK USED TO PAY SALARIES AND BACKED ONLY BY DEPOSITED MONEY OR THE CITIES HELP----MANY PEOPLE WHO WORKED FOR PUBLIC AGENCIES WERE PAID IN SCRIPT---THAT WERE REDEEMABLE AT STORES AND BUSINESSES IN THAT AREA..............

 THE SECOND ODDITY IS A NOTE FOR $.O5---FROM THE CITY OF OWASSO, MICHIGAN IN 1933,,,,,,,,,THIS WAS ISSUED DURING THE DEPRESSION-------WHY A NICKEL---I HAVE NO IDEA.........IT WOULD SEEM TO COST MORE TO PRINT THESE ITEMS THAN THEY WERE WORTH..........

LASTLY IS A VOUCHER ISSUED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA RAIL ROAD COMPANY IN 1873---8 YEARS AFTER THE CICIL WAR---THIS SAYS IT WAS GOOD FOR ONE FARE--I BLEW UP THE PICTURE OF THE TRAIN---THANKS AND IF YOUHAVE AN ODDITY PLEASE SHARE IT...........

....in 1973.....8 years after the Cicil War. Hmmm. Anyhow, those are very nice notes. Also during the depression era, many sales tax tokens were issued by many states. Do you collect those?

I HAVEN'T DONE MUCH READING IN THE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS MUNICIPALITIES HAVE USED TP PAY EMPLOYEES WHEN TIMES WERE BAD----THE MINES PAID IN SCRIPT GOOD ONLY AT STORES OWNED BY THE MINES SO WORKERS WERE FORCED TO PAY HIGHER PRICES-----I HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY OF THOSE MINE SCRIPTS YET BUT THEN I HAVEN'T BEEN LOOKING

 A NOTE FOR $.O5-IT WOULD SEEM TO COST MORE TO PRINT THESE ITEMS THAN THEY WERE WORTH..........

Dog gone that's a pretty note. It looks old. Is that World War I? It looks too old for W W II, but then again, I don't know if they had Military notes in W W I.

Can't find a year on it, but I guess it it WWII.
Strange that they only have 13 stars above the eagle though.

THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL MILITARY NOTE---I BELIEVE IT IS WWII----THE 13 STARS APPEAR ON A LOT OF GOVERNMENT PRINTED MATERIALS----THEY STAND FOR THE 13 ORIGINAL COLONIES----------

Steve, I checked on your MPC (Military Payment Certificate) with an expert in the matter. He spent 18 yrs in the service in Asian countries and he collects the MPCs. He said that your 5 c note was the 1st issued in that series of 5. The series '481' designates it was issued in 1948....the 1st 2 numbers of '481', and the 3rd number designates the 1st issue. Then there was the 482, 483, 484, & 485 series issued. He mentioned that being the 1st issue, it's worth around $10 U S and it is a sought after collectable note.
