My team (The Cardinals) won their first 2 and lost the third. They look like they are going to be good this year.

"Wait til next year!" Yeah, yeah, I've heard that now for over a half century concerning the CUBS. The fans shouldn't complain though....heck, they won their last pennant 'only' 64 years ago and their last world series 'only' 102 years ago. But, since they are playing .333 baseball now, "Wait til next year!" Ya, shur!

Baseball LOST ME about three strikes ago and I mean player strikes! I don't need to go into specifics here but will say as I grew up I was a baseball fanatic and loved to play the game. Now I only enjoy the little guys in PeeWee league and Little League. They don't require much financing and they play their little hearts out for the love of the game.
Last year I actually ended up as an assistant coach, which I have not done for over 25 years, and I found the love is still there to pass on but for the game only. No love left for the pros!

MLB lost me three strikes ago too.  I do enjoy the Midwest League games, actually our first home opener is on Sunday.  I don't like baseball as much as hockey but our farm team baseball games are pretty affordable even for my Brady Bunch sized family.

BTW Templar I have been in Tiger Stadium before, maybe twice - it is a very nice field and as you know a wonderful view of what was once a lovely city.  The opener today had a record crowd of 45k, I didn't know there were that many people even left in Detroit anymore.

Big cities should be like our families. You can only raise as many children as you can afford unless of course you think the federal government will adopt you? Most of the cities just can't say NO any longer. Big dreams of "Let's Build It" and they will come! Guess what...most taxpayers and families can NO LONGER afford to come.
For some odd reason getting elected to public office automatically makes one stupid and blind. Also the thought of unlimited spending brings forth unwise spending that really does NOT enhance the communitie's quality of life. We have seen it world over as cities compete as cash starved pigs looking for a trough to feed out of. And, with government stimulus money they are still doing it? Spending 50 million for a three day event which will bring in a few million to local establishments isn't good math but hey its taxpayer money isn't it? Who really cares?
In our family lives we would call it unjustified spending and not within our budget. In the eyes of a politician it is___________________(call it what ever you like).

Some of the big city's around here are talking about merging together to make one larger city. I don't know if it's a good ideal or not. Some of them city's already have close to a 100 people. put 2 or 3 of them together and look what a wade of folks you would have.  ;D  ::)

Re: WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR

I grew up in a huge metropolis of Burney, Indiana. Population was whatever about 60 homes could hold. We had no town council, mayor or police. We never locked our doors or our cars. Kids ran the streets and played games. We had no public service utilities other than electricity as everyone had their own water (well) and septic system. The county took care of the roads. We seldom had anything that was a crime unless halloween pranks counted? But that is all changing. Forced city water, piped in full of chemicals, and a forced sewage treatment facility (which still has not been built) was enough to move me and most of the folks I grew up with on to new locations. Living in a small town is slowly drying up as government steps in.
We had two stores, three garages, a bank (at one time), a grain mill, a post office and a fire department. Rules and regulations have shut down everything except the fire department and one garage. A ghost town in the making! :'(
I lived in a city for one year and that experience like to drove me nuts. I hated every minute of not knowing your neighbors, strangers running the streets all hours of the night and constant wail of sirens looking for an emergency or crime. I would prefer to be homeless, living in my tent, rather than go back to another year in the city. And thats just a city of 16,000 or so. I just can't do it!
