I thought it would be nice to start a thread about Twoshadows book - The Witch Nuts.
I'm sure Terry would appreciate some feedback, either positive or critical.

I have just spent the last five hours reading the last half of the book.
Personally I found it very enjoyable. It held my attention as I was eager
to find out what happens. I liked the way the names for the Witch Nuts
are all anadromes. I didn't catch on to that at first.
It was a little disappointing to see so many spelling mistakes. I'm not sure
if that came from the Twosahdows or the publisher. At one point, one character
had his name changed completely.
Apart from these little things, I think it was a very good book and I can't
wait for the next installment.
Good to see you slipped the coins in to the story, also saw the words
knight and two shadows

Thanks for a good read, Terry. Great job for a first book.

I will let my Son and Daughter read it now to get points of view
from different generations.

What did everyone else think about it?

Triggersmob I thank you for your review. The spelling problems were, quite honestly, my fault. As all of you know this was my first attempt at a novel so every aspect of the novel's production was new to me. The final proof was my responsibility and it seems I failed miserably but in my defense I had 3 days to approve the book and those 3 days were very busy for me. Looking back it would have been best if I had hired someone to proof read the print for me. I was very very busy those three days so my attempts to read that which I had read and re-read so many times was limited. If I did not make the corrections within the three days the publisher assumed the proofs were ready and fowarded to artwork and production. I attempted, about a week later, to halt the process but it was too late. I accepted my lack of knowledge in this new endeavor as a learning experience and have applied that earned knowledge as I move forward into book number two. (The Witch Nuts, The Engima Begins).
My big concern on book one was character building and keeping the reader involved until the first of many mysteries did come to light. Hopefully you did not suffer too much while I took you there! I will say a there is a great deal of truth in the novel but it will be up to the reader to decide what is truth and what is fiction. Hey, thats just like our real lives isn't it?

I understand the need to build your characters and did not suffer through this.

How much of the main character, Dean,  is based on your life, i.e the coin collecting, outdoorsman, Indiana?

There is much more action in the 2nd book as it takes off five years later. (1985) The third book won't make me any friends as most of the world will be upset with me! Especially the do-gooders who think they have it (life) all figured out!!!

Triggersmob the bulk of it takes place in my life within miles of my home. Parkson's Hill in real life is Pumphrey's Hill and the descriptions are very real life. Most of the first chapter is first hand from my life. Also Aunt Maude was a real life experience with me. I am still trying to locate her grave. The Parkson's in the book, Jake, Dennis, and most of the gang are all based on living friends (well all but one is still alive). Yes we rode motorcycles together! In the upcoming book most of the accidents are true life as well. At times it is hard to seperate the truth from the fiction but it does take fiction to make a good story and most folks wouldn't believe what is true in the whole story anyway! Don't worry it is ALL going to get very strange and make a huge twist by book three!

There will be some other very interesting facts come to light in the very first few chapters of book two that are based on my real life experiences including that which I have carried in my pocket for 36 years. Now why would I do that?

Over this past summer many folks have asked "What's your book about"? I always answer "You will just have to read it!" And at some time in the conversation I will say, "It is not what you think!"
The front cover is a bit deceiving but I did like the fact there is a basket of nuts on it? Did you notice that? And quite honestly this story has gone through all of recorded history so I guess that is why I accepted the front cover art and the mere fact I did not want to delay the book any longer. My dream was to have it out by Halloween but it still has not hit the mass market on book shelves. At least not to my knowledge. A few bookstores on Amazon.com have it listed and it is available in Great Britain. Now, I guess I must pray for word of mouth as advertisement as I am not real sure the publisher is going to put much money into advertising.

So Triggersmob was it what you thought?

Twoshadows,

Pat is halfway through your book.

It's going slow because we are trying to downsize, and just rented a storage unit.  So, are busy 18 hours a day.

Pat says to tell you she likes the book, and her only constructive criticism is that your purblisher's proof reader could have done a better job.

We are doing our part by asking Barnes and Nobel to order the book.  Will also talk with other book sellers and request the book.

I envy you being an author.  I have a couple non-fictional books in mind but don't know that I'll ever get around to writing them.

 :) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D

To be quite honest, Terry, I didn't know what to expect.
I guess I was thinking of Witch hunting fanatics (Witch Nuts),
running around, rounding up Witches.

By the way, I offer a proof reading service, you can pay with

CoinCrusader if I can write a book ANYONE CAN! I will admit I went at this without a clue and absolutely NO direction. I just sat down at the ole computer and started in and getting started was the hard part. After that whenever I could find a few minutes I added a line or two, sometimes a paragraph and once in a great while a whole chapter. This time around I am PROOF READING as I go!!

Triggersmob I might rustle up some buffalo but the gold would be tough. Amazingly I know I can send the whole book with a click of a mouse as my oldest son ran the book through his computer to do a couple of things my old computer just couldn't do. The technology we now have will never cease to amaze me. I did all of the book with ONLY one phone call with the publisher and that was when they offered me the contract. Everything else was by emailing documents. But, I promise I will keep you in mind!

Last but not least I promise the 3rd book will answer all of life's mysteries and destroy most of what we have been told and taught! Why would that upset anyone? ::)

I've finally finished the book.  I enjoyed it very much and seeing I'm NOT usually a reader of fiction, that's really a compliment.  I'm looking forward to the next volume.

I twigged on to the anadromes straightaway, I have this compulsion whenever I see a strangely spelt word, I read it backwards, been doing it ever since I learned to read.

I often spell 'normal' words backwards to see what they'll look like and the best so far is the well known Aussie landmark in Sydney, Luna Park!  Nostradamus backwards is Sumadartson! See, I told you, it's a real compulsion.  ;D  ;D

It's no wonder, just look at my forum ID!!!!!  See a word you recognise from the book ???  My Mother really started it all back in 1943!!!  ::)

Many years ago, there was a racehorse named 'Reppocgum'. It was disqualified & the owner had to change it's name.

Anyhow, I also offer a proof reading service, I actually did Proof Reading as part of my job back in the late 60's.

Two of us had to take turns reading aloud a 1968/9  book on Tax Assessment Objections, Appeals, Complaints etc. One of us read aloud while the other followed it in print.  I ended up losing my voice. The book was about 2 inches thick and the print was tiny.

Every punctuation mark, capital letter, had to be read out.
EG: Capital E every punctuation mark comma capital letter comma had to be read out period

The good ole days!  8)

I would like to thank you all very much for giving me something I did not have the past few months---Someone to talk to about the book! I guess one has to have a little faith and hope someday someone will read what you worked on for so long. It is a treat to be able to finally hold a conversation about that which I have put into words!
Secondly I want to know would you or have you recommended this book to another friend or family member? The way I see it, with the enormous amount of books being published, word of mouth will be critical to find any success in this flood of titles. One thing is for certain, publishers will not spend much time and effort on any one title unless they see a reason to. That will take book sales to open their eyes and wallet, so to speak!

I think I need to talk to my neighbour across the road about this book.
He is one of the licensing team for this company.. http://www.oscorpentertainment.com/
they buy the rights to books and characters, and market them for TV etc.

They might be able to promote the book or maybe develop the Witch Nut characters.

It might not be your original aim, but I could see these Witch Nuts as a childrens cartoon series.
Maybe a movie and free give aways with Maccas. Maybe little toys dolls that fold up into a walnut.

Do you have a picture of how you see a Witch Nut looking?

I just went on to a couple of Aussie online book stores and they are selling your book for $62.95,
I don't know if you will be selling many at that price. In Amazon they are only $25.15, I'm not sure what the postage would cost.

If I remember correctly Amazon.com charges a little over $7.00 for foreign shipments but that may vary.  Triggersmob you brought up a few items that were in my mind the whole time I was writing. One being movie rights and the other being toy rights. I see a huge market but something or someone will have to present the book to those who might listen. Most folks don't know it is a three book series with a real twist in the third book.  The second book will continue with Dean and Jake plus many others but the last one is a brace yourself! It is NOT what you think!

Triggersmob feel free to do anything possible to promote my book(s). Your efforts are much appreciated. I just have to be patient and see where all of this may take me!

I liked it a lot! You did a good job with your characters and opened up a lot of doors for the sequels. The black swans are circling.  :o  I just got to ask now, will we see counter-witch nuts from another dimension opposing the witch nuts and Dean--the third shadow?

Offline TwoShadows

Hey Longnine THANKS ALOT! The Black Swan may indeed come into play before the second book is finished. I needed an idea for a particular "sign" that would come and a black swan may just be it! There will be guests, so to speak, from another dimension so you will have to wait for those who have been here many times before. You know some of us humans may have experienced them during our lives! ;D

Sadly, when the 3rd book arrives it will have NOTHING good to say about the filthy rich, governments or religion. We will ALL probably wish a good witch lived next door!!!

And always remember WITCHES are people too!!! ;D Same hopes and dreams but with a very different outlook and ways of getting there!  ;)

Well I see there are those of you willing to help me out with an upcoming question for book 2. I will be needing unique names for every country that still has a tree remaining. Those of you who have read the book know of what I am referring to. Listed below are the countries where the great one still stands as a great coming shall take place in the mid to late 90's prior to the dark days.

U.S.---Ecaep
Australia---Reggirt ;D  Nevol  ;D
Croatia---
China---
Great Britain---
Japan---
Canada---

Darn if I have not forgotten the complete list! Guess I will have to dig up some info before I list any more. Any ideas for these? Remember I want unique backwards!

According to the book, 15 trees exist, but I could only find reference to these locations, I think you are still to lets us know where the others exist.

U.S.---Ecaep - Peace

Australia---Nevol - Needs no explanation

Croatia---Nitsab - A very dear friend of our family died in Yugoslavia whilst on holiday. He was buried there as he and his wife really loved this country. His name was Fred Bastin.

China---Ihciat - Tai Chi

Great Britain---Reggirt - Me, I was born in Surrey, England. I lived in a town called Warlingham. Nice place for a Tree of Life.

Japan---Nirik - Kirin, A creature from Chinese and Japanese mythology and a nice beer too.

Canada---Elpam - Maple, or Esoom - Moose

Africa --- Arahas - Sahara

South America --- Sedna - Andes

Central America ---Cetza - Aztec

Middle East --- Laner - Renal

Just a few quick ideas.

Always look at WHO is doing the talking and WHY they are talking when it comes to other religions. They who talk do not tell you ALL religions were born out of witchcraft and their holidays do they? The dates of modern day religions for the most part coincide with holidays of long ago but the meaning was changed to suit those in charge or the major religion of any given area. We, as well as our forefathers, have literally been drowned by lies but the truth now lies on the horizon. The next few years could be very very interesting as we attempt to match my story line with that which is coming. I just hope I can get the last two books done in time!!! ;D

It all boils down to one thing, are you a good ______ or a bad_______? Pick any word or religion you like to fill in the blanks! Positive or negative? One cannot be both now can we? And keep in mind birds of a feather flock together!

For what it is worth I have commissioned an artist to finally put the witchnuts drawings on paper. Hopefully drawings or pictures will be available soon! I know they are anxious to see you all as well!

I'm going out on a limb here, this is something I've NEVER mentioned outside my family.........

I have a sort of ESP, and often freaked out my Husband with it.  As the 7th Daughter of a 7th Son, according to "Old Wives Tales", I should have some 'special' abilities.

My Husband went Metal Detecting once on his own, came home & as he was walking up the back stairs, I stood on the porch with my hand stretched out.  He asked what I was after, and I told him to give me the gold ring he'd found.  He denied having found one, but I stuck to my guns, I KNEW he had found one.

After about 20 Mins of denial, he eventually fessed up, and took a gold wedding ring out of his pocket. He was totally gob smacked! I had 'sensed' that he'd found one as he drove in the yard.

I could always tell as he opened the door when he came home what type mood he was in.  I couldn't see him, sometimes I was 5 rooms away, I just knew if he was happy, cranky, tired or whatever.  My 'power' has faded lately though, I guess I'm getting too old or tired or something.

A 7th child of a 7th child isn't supposed to have these powers if there were children of the other gender born in between #1 and #7, but it didn't stop me,  I have 6 sisters & 5 brothers, in mixed order of birth.

Scientists claim we use sixty two percent of our brain! Whats the other one third for? One thing is for certain and that is the fact there are very special people with special talents in the world but......(HUGE BUT) most societies and religions will point a finger very quickly if anyone can do anything beyond the norm! Just another case of suppression at its finest. And of course there are those religions who are quick to call it a gift from Satan should one discover a unique gift and actually use it! Sad but true and this alone forces a world of great finds to remain hidden in plain sight!
If my book sells enough to bring on book two I can assure you book 3 will blow you away. Most of the greatest truths of our lifetime had to be told as a fiction to get a book or movie. Everything is controlled but we are not supposed to be bright enough to know it and SADLY most of the masses don't and won't until the shock is dropped right in their lap!

It has taken a while, but finally was able to put (almost) everything else aside today and sat down and read the book. I did enjoy it thoroughly and can't wait for book 2 (do hope you have got started on that, Twoshadows).

Will comment further later, as after sitting on my butt all day reading or talking to mum on the phone, I need to get out and about a bit!

I can say book two is progressing slowly. I can also say, to this point, new nuts include Ralpmet, Nevol, Reggirt, Nitsab, Nirik, Elpam, Esoom, Aedna, Cetza, and Ihciat. Lots more NON stop action in this one but I now got to get around a tad bit of writers block. Other characters will come into play, sooner or later, and I know Erutan will be along from the next dimension soon!

GET all those friends to buy a book!!! May need the boost to get the second one in print. They can see www.thewitchnuts.com or just go to Amazon.com and do a search for the book title. Thanks guys and gals.

Hey Twoshadows - I would love to have Tsurt down here to keep me company! I'd even take him down to the river so he could practise skimming stones across the water.

Seriously - I did enjoy the book and it has left me with wanting to do a number of things - some of them being to:

*start looking into the origins of various religious holidays and beliefs  (I have a feeling though that will take a long, long time)
*resume doing something that I used to do on an almost weekly basis up until a few years ago - take a drive out to the country side and have a wander around the river or up in the hills. Used to love just looking at the trees and picking out my favourite one for the day
*on the lighter side - I want to go and buy a bag of unshelled walnuts to keep in a bowl on the table! I'd probably end up going to the extreme though and give each one a name!

I can also see great potential in the story line being made into a movie. I'll be loaning the book to a few of my work colleagues - hopefully that will indirectly increase sales through their word of mouth. One of them has a niece who works in computer animation, so I'm hoping she will pass it on to her for some feedback in that line.

Thanks Tobyle! Just think how good this story could have been if a real writer had done it! I do appreciate ALL the help I can get as, as I have said, the publisher won't spend a dime promoting a new book unless there is really a reason to do so. One thing is for certain---The book's cover DOES NOT give this story away! It is not what you think.

What makes a writer a 'real writer'. I think you underestimate yourself there, Twoshadows. OK - there were a few spelling and grammatical errors, but that all comes down to the proof-reading, and you've already explained that. I had read a number of books by a well known author before I actually starting reading one of the first book she had written. I've never been able to finish that first book of hers and if that was the first one I picked up, I doubt I would have read any others. And that was nothing to do with spelling or grammar etc - I just found it totally confusing.
Your story line as well is one that could appeal to a much wider variety of readers. It just needs that initial kick off the ground.

Bad advice Templar

I only have one tooth extracted sofar. A wisdom tooth since the stupid ole dentist
refused to repair it since it is superfluous anyway he said .
So I was afraid of the pain after the painkiller wore out
I drank a full bottle of vodka and my wife saved me from drowning in the plate
of tomatoe soup I had managed to put in front of me before I passed out completely

I did not feel any pain though in the extraction place

Nothing like getting good advice from GREAT friends. It is also rewarding knowing the insurance company is only paying for half! :'( I actually saw a commercial this morning, aimed at employers, describing how they did NOT have to pay a cent for this new insurance. Their employees would pay all the premiums. Is that our benefits in the near future? I know many folks who are paying through the teeth now for very bad insurance. Can't wait to see the future!

In welfare land here it is simple
Either they pay 90% or they pay nothing
The boss pays 175 the employee gets 100 gross and 48 net and then the city takes up to 12 % and then there are provincial and pollution and water and waste and land and ownership and etc taxes
Now if you want to eat that is 6% value added tax
and if god forbid you want to buy silver that is 19 % value added tax
The only way to beat the sytem is NOT to work  :(
Or qualify for full retirement ASAP  :D which I did  ;D

I thought my employers health care insurance was crappy (I don't have anything taken out of my check for health insurance, the company pays the premiums, although they have NO optical plan & a crappy dental plan!) but my son-in-laws company health insurance has got to be about the worst I have heard of: They take about $120 per week out of his check, and he still has to pay about $30 for an office call every time they have to go to the doctor! And my daughter has to go once a month 'cause she's having a baby around July 1st. Every time she goes its $30 per visit, then as she gets closer to the due date, she will be going twice a month until the baby comes! Then if that ain't enough, they must pay a deductible of $300 when its time to deliver the baby! What kind of crap is that??? (Pardon my French!)   >:(  >:(  >:(

They tell me I am lucky because my employer pays for my insurance and in reality I suppose I am. But the key to staying lucky is NOT using it. My upcoming dental bill is only a few bucks from $4,000.00 as I just couldn't make myself, at my age, do the recommended $10,000 my other dentist wished to put into my teeth. I just can't make myself understand these outlandish charges by the medical profession.
Staying healthy seems to be my only option!

The book arrived last week and I finished it yesterday

Since I was 18 I have read 600 paperbacks and rated them all from 1 to 5
5 was rereadable when old . 4 was good read but give away to somebody
3 and below was dump in the trash ( and some well known names ended there)

So first Twoshadows rated a 5 ( the highest in my starting catalogue system )

I only was distracted by like 4 spelling mistakes ; my mind filled in the others since
I read like 35 pages an hour

My first impression was that his style is like Stephen King  ;)

One of the acid tests is the amount of pages I skip without reading ; only six times did I skip half a page ; the other times I had to backtrack cause I lost content.
So this is worthy of a very high readability rating

I did not like the formatting were jumping from one scene to another there was not a space with a star in it to wake me up to the fact that another scene was restarting

Some opportunities were not used ; crisping dead bodies in a car could have made for a nice scene of pouring petrol and flesh melting and a BBQ stink drifting away

I am a romantic ; so frankly I did NOT like Sam dieing

I think it is a major mistake not calling it a Trilogy front and back ; because I would have looked for the second book and bought it if it were announced a second book was coming
Now as a reader I don't know there is going to be a sequel

Last ; splitting it up in shorter chapters and getting more details in other parts would have improved the book .

Why not have for instance the main law officer shot in a shoot out between the "good" guys and the corrupt guys ? by accident of course . His head exploding in a mist of red blood particles that drifted over the campsite were they murdered innocent victims in their lust for financial gains . The boddy crumpling headless to the ground ; as headless
as he had gone through life and as limp as his morale .Food for the worms that waited so long . But deprived since he was cremated . The money he left given to a charity that was the same church that corrupted him in the first place to commit the atrocities . And the cardinal smiling all the way home since he made a nice profit at least and the nuts  and witches could wait for another day  :D

To be continued (not by me)

PS ; Twoshadows for a first book this is very very very good

At least give me somebody buried in the ground with only his head above ground like the apache did ? Smeared with honey and a anthill with fire ants very near by and call him
Fed ? (DEF)  or PoPiT ( for plunge protection team)  ;D

I saw a film this evening "The Institution" about a Luxembourg bank that wanted to sell
like 1400 rockets to the Arabs . They had a hired gunman and a dozen killers . They had the CIA and german and italian law enforcement in their pockets. They killed a future italian president because as a business man he refused to convert the electronic guidance system of the rockets to the latest state of the art

There was this fantastic dialogue ; one banker explaining that if you create a war and have control of the debt caused by that war ; you have control of everything
Control of debt is everything he says . ( In that case the Chinese own ole US)

In the end the Interpol guy shoots the bankster because that is the only way to make
"the law" prevail . The film ends with a lot of other banksters having taken over the business and fronting an aid campaing in africa  :o

I am currently awaiting  the return of my computer so I can continue with book two. Lots  more action, new twists with new answers which will breed new questions! It's not over till it's over!

I have regained possession of my computer but did have some form of crash yesterday. Accounts were deleted, new accounts set up and after tinkering for the longest time I did manage (with help) to pull my book(s) from the old settings. Book two is now available for finishing and I am once again writing! Will keep you all posted on this one---"The Witch Nuts, The Enigma Begins"! :o

Looking forward to Book Two.  I've already read Book One twice!  ::)

I'll probably read it again before I start on Book Two.  :o
