Strange Bi-Centennial Quarter
August 22, 2009, 03:54:25 AM
I received a 1976 Quarter in change yesterday.  The coin was AU, however the reedinh was missing.  Maybe due to slot machine use, but then how do you account for the condition?  Also, do members agree that the Bi-Centennial coins are worth about face valuie, and there is no point in saving them out of circulation?

Someone probably had nothing else better to do, and just smoothed off the reeded edge on the coin. I've come across lots of coins like that, especially with half dollars. As for the bi-centennial coins, unless you can find some nice Uncs, I'd just spend "em! Just my opinion.  ;D

NIGHTHAWK IS RIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AWHILE--THOSE BI-CENTENIALS AREN'T WORTH MUCH UNLESS THE ARE UNCS OR PROOFS---SAME WITH THE STATES QUARTERS--THEY MAKE A NICE COLLECTION BUT ONLY A FEW ERROR COINS ARE REALLY WORTH MUCH-----ENJOY THEM ANYWAY--

You can tell the economy is having an effect.  In my volunteer work at the hospital gift shop yesterday, I found four bi-centennial quarters.  People are cashing in the coins they see as worth only face value.

Hi, I am new bid in the block.
These also happened to me. I "bought" some Kennedy 1/2 dollars from several banks, found many Bicentennials in a very good conditions near uncirculated. They could come from somebody's collection.
