Canadian Cents Question
June 08, 2009, 03:56:27 AM
I wouldn't have to ask this question if I had my Canadian reference book, however it's loaned out.

My grandkids and I are starting work on a Canadian Small Cent collection.

According to memory, there was only one coin unattainable.  I think that was the 1936 dot.

I would appreciate a list of the Canadian Cents which are more pricey, and about how much they would cost in "average" condition.

Thanks for any help.

CC, when it comes to Canada and Coins, I find this site very helpful. :)

http://www.coinsandcanada.com/

I know that the mid 20's is hard to find quality coins for cheap prices.  There does seem to be a '36 coin without pricing listed- that might be the one you're thinking of.  Good luck in the quest!   Canadian cents have been fun. :)

Do add this coin to my collection?

Gary, I copied this from a thread in the 'Other' forum.  ;)

1920 to 2008. 1936 Dot (only 4 are known to exist). 1947 with and without Maple Leaf. 1953 - 1955 with and without shoulder fold. 2003 P (to indicate copper-plated steel. actually began in that metal in 1997; just no P on the coin). ALSO 2003 P started issue of copper-plated zinc. Not sure how many total but think it's around 100 coins.

Key Dates: 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925. All have mintages of less than 2 million. 1926 and 1930 less than 3 million.

Thanks Nancy.

Looks like a basic set wouldn't be too hard to collect -- if you don't worry about the wierd, really expensive ones.

I found four more Canadian Cents last night, and hope to buy some from KOTCT members.  The kids and I are determined to complete the Canadian pennies, and also work on Buffalo Nickels.

Thanks Kitty and Nevol for your help.
