The coolest coin I've ever bought. :D

Normal day at the coin dealer's shop today.  Got to go through a box from the back, and I found quite possibly the coolest coin I've ever seen.


1610NB, 1 Groschen of Prince Gabriel Bathory of Transylvania.  The full legend is readable, if not perfect.  We settled on a grade of VF for it.    I love my new vampire coin!

Also picked these two goodies up, along with some more standard fare:


Japanese 1 rin coin, (1/1000th of a yen) Meiji 17, dated 1884.  This is the last year of issue for this coin.


1 cent, Prince Edward Island, 1871.  The coin is actually a beautiful chocolate brown with wear on the high points only.  My scanner butchered the details, but I haven't gotten around to trying to photograph it properly yet.

I don't know if Prince Gabriel Báthory of Transylvania was considered an actual vampire, like say, Vlad the Impaler. But a distant cousin of his, and a contemporary, Countess Elizabeth Báthory, was known as the Blood Countess, a serial killer who was rumored to bathe in the blood of virgins to maintain youthful looks.
