I still don't know what to think about him.

But at least he had the guts to speak the hard truth. I only can hope he means it.

"But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

All well and good, but isn't this exactly what Congresswoman and House Speaker Nancy Palosi (a true nonpartisan, if I ever seen one) has been saying all along?  With her help he may get it done. :-\

Well at least Nancy never quoted a aristocrat slave owner army guy who stands up in the boat no less.

At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:
"Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet (it)."

Just teasing Mr. President.  ;D Even if that was strange. Abe had just as many trying moments that could have been quoted.

I'm  only giving Obama credit for telling the country what they didn't want to hear. But like someone said: Don't bother listening to what politicians say they will do. Watch instead at what they actually do.

I'm pretty sure I like  Michelle Obama.  See seems pretty down to earth.

We'll see what happens, but in many speeches given by the Pres, I keep hearing the word "Sacrifice". Do we all know what that means?

How much more "sacrifice" do we hafta give? I lost a good paying job 2 years ago, now I work for peanuts; got rid of cable T.V.; sold a lot of my coins; don't take vacations anymore; eat lots of potatoes and mac & cheese, what the???? What else can I "sacrifice"? What's next? My coin collection? My wife & kids???  ::)

IMO there is going to be a lot of sacrifice and hardships for this country and the world. "Hair of the dog" isn't going to get rid of the hang over. My only hope (probably a big dream) in all this is that those who screwed up the most pay the most. So far, it's been the exact opposite. "Ask what you can do for your bank" as the Bonner man recently said.

Sacrifice?  Wait 'til the tax bills for all these bailouts of the automakers, the banks, the porno stars, the airlines, etc. start rolling into your mailbox.  Then mac and cheese will go the way of pinto beans and watery soup.

Then sacrifice will likely be the lives of a lot of people, economic downturns usually end... in a war.

I have a feeling John McCain is the luckiest bastard around, for NOT getting elected.  First he would have had all these problems to deal with, and then on top of it he would have to run around stomping out fires that Sarah Palin started everywhere.

Quaint terminology
" Sacrifice ? " Sacrifice implies just that but not for the wealthy
I have had like 20 years of " Solidarity" meaning that anybody earning or getting more then the poverty limit had to "help" those that were officially below that limit
In practice during the "good" times I was working and providing for myself , my wife , one pensioned person , one child and one jobless person that may or may not have had any intrest in finding work . So I earned for 5 and probably a 6 th state employed person

Now they even add the line solidarity deduction before the bottom line of my pension .

I paid like 70% of my salary in income tax and vat . Plus all other kinds of costs
My social contribution was a percentage of my gross income . However when I was fired the social ceiling for receiving assistance applied and I got 37 Euro per day to keep my place heated and me and my wife fed and province and city taxes paid and of course all the types of needed insurance . 37 is the maximum whatever contribution you paid during your working life

I never had more then one car and the last three cars lasted me 10 to 12 years each .
Where did I save after being fired ? On taxes . I paid no more income tax and no more state tax . No more vacations . And during 6 years no more new clothes .

Now I have the highest possible private state pension about 60% above the poverty limit and I have again to pay state tax and solidarity etc
( Pensioned state employees got like 10% higher state pensions )
Solidarity . Word imported from Gdansk and Lech Valesa I guess

Well, quite honestly, I think President Obama has his heart and head in the right place but the good ole boys and girls running Congress really don't care! I do think we have the largest anti-gun congress we have seen in my life and with Hillary jumping on the international gun ban requested by the UN there could be trouble in paradise!!! Sooner or later one of the anti's will set something off that will be very hard to stop!
And, as for Michelle Obama, well I wish the whole world could have read some of her college term papers before the powers that be stopped the media from printing or releasing any more info. Sorry, at this time, I don't care for her one bit!
I just hope some fool doesn't do anything stupid in the next few weeks as the last "I am going to make changes" type guy and his brother didn't fare well with the powers that be. (1963) It won't take much, in this economy, to set things off!

The real problem we face is the entrenched members of Congress.

If we voted out the encumbents every two years, we might actually get somethings done for "We The People," rather than the fat cats.

For all Americans, I wish the new President well.

With his election, I would sure like to see the race issue gone once and for all.  Turn on a news channel, and that's all you get.

The big story yesterday wasn't the fact that a man with some African blood got inaugurated.  It was, once again, the peaceful transition of power.

Did you guys know that the USA used to have a constitution?

Seemingly the last several administrations, including the Clintons, managed to ignore and even depreciate it.  The most recent administration just ignored it or maneuvered around it so they could accomplish what they wished.

Sorry to sound negative, but I will believe this BS from Obama when a couple of years have passed.  Until then, he is just another crook on the take.

Insignificant detail ; they drafted the constitution after they killed off all the Buffaloos making the Indjuns die of starvation

I think that Skinner determined the valuescale of those that had it all
one was POWER
two was MONEY
three was WOMEN

For those that had little it was FOOD and SHELTER and FAMILY etc

That was back when the District of China was called the District of Columbia. It must have been a rather quaint time. I hear they even had nine judges whose only job was to be more  lucid than the  zombies.

Speaking of zombies, someone paid over a million dollar for a painting partially done by Pootie-Poot. He worked on his "creation" for 20 minutes: "and I'm spent."  He had to get another artist, presumably a real one, to finish it.

Geithner will be needing all the cow and bull dung he can get his hands on so he can sprinkle it with fairy dust and call it money.

Geithner? Where did they find that clown? He can't even balance his own checkbook;  but then I guess that's what they want.

Those favors you speak of, by Washington staffers, was actually brought up by ole Bill himself. Of course he had to get Hillary to set it up for him this time! He doesn't have that good lookin Reno lady any longer so he needs some new companionship while Hillary is out taking care of OUR business for us! How's that for scary? She didn't have the guts to do what any other normal woman would have done, under the circumstances, because she needed the old man and his political position to set her up and thats exactly what has happened. Without him she would be working divorce cases in an Arkansas courtroom!

Twoshadows, sometime you need to read up on Bill and his "foreign" affairs, he once claimed to Dolly Kyle, with whom he had an on again off again relationship for 25 years, that he had literally had hundreds.

That the Clinton marriage is a marriage of you scratch my back, I will scratch yours is no surprise at all.  There is a veritable litany of "conquests" that our former president has performed...

Monica Lewinsky
Barbra Streisand, Babs, yes he boffed her in the Whitehouse
Dolly Kyle
Paula Jones
Gennifer Flowers
and many many more too numerous to list here.

So yes, it is very convenient that Hillary will be sent off on foreign assignments, now Bill can have his secret service detail finding skank for him.

Yes, a man has to do what a man has to do!!! ;) As for reading up on ole Bill I would rather not. Had enough of him in the past to last me a lifetime. In my personal opinion NO ONE MAN has disgraced the office of President of the United States more than he. It is a shame he is back in the lime light once again which shows us how bad the state of politics is in this country. Both parties couldn't fill a Pepsi bottle with good honest, hard working politicians.

Oh we did have a couple of honest politicians in the last presidential race, but they were trounced in the primaries.  I liked that guy with polygamous ancestors myself, at least he was married to the same woman for now 40 years, and no others.
