A GREAT WEEK NUMISMATICALLY
October 23, 2008, 11:20:24 AM
WOW! This has been a great week for me, numismatically speaking! Besides receiving a great batch of world coins in trade from Miss Kitty (awesome!!!), and more British India stamp papers from Sir George (also awesome!!!), I've picked up the following items here and there throughout the week. Just thought I'd share them with my fellow Knights and Knightesses! These banknotes I got from a friend who was in China for 3 weeks.  ;D

The half dollar was picked from a roll from my local bank, the 2 Hong Kong 20 cents (2 different types BTW!) were brought home from my friend's China trip, and the China 1 Jiao I found in a crate of steel parts from China at work. (Some poor guy probably lost his lunch money! LOL)  ;D

And a wooden flat from Jacksonville, Florida, which must be redeemed by 1:00 PM, March 28, 1951. (LOL) Bought at same auction for $3.50.  (The company I work for is headquartered in Jacksonville) ;D

That's a nice 40% silver Kennedy!  If you look for DDOs, that's a good year to search.
Very interesting to see "postage due" stamps on a post card.

Thanks, Kurt. A few years back, I picked up some half dollar rolls at my local bank, and one roll was all 1967, and all choice BU!  :o

Some very interesting stuff there. Where is the post card with the bridge on it from?

The bridge is the Ambassador Bridge that connects Detroit with Windsor, Ontario, Canada over the Detroit River. It is 2 miles long and 152 feet high over the river. The postcard is from 1938. The Ford Motor Company postcard is from 1927 in Highland Park, Michigan, very, very close to Detroit.  ;D

Sir Nighthawk:

Glad you have received the British India Stamp Papers and like them.

If any Member of the Castle is interested in them, I can send the Stamp Papers for $1 each.

Sincerely
George

It is by giving others, we actually receive from G

Very interesting bunch of items.

When I was teaching, my classes had a Bi-Centennial project which called for writing letters to the editor of many newspapers, asking for post cards.  We ended up with about 75,000.

Most interesting of all was a card sent back to the U.S. by a soldier in France -- 1918.

 :) :) :) :)
