Jackson Dollars

The U.S. Mint released Jackson Dollars Thursday.  So, yesterday I visited some banks to see if I could buy a few rolls.

I tried the US Bank, Wells Fargo, Colorado National, Bank of the West, First National, and my credit union.  Guess what!?  None of the banks had any in stock, and two of the tellers weren't even aware a new dollar had been minted.

Anyone pick up any Jacksons yet?

I doubt the banks are ordering them at all.  Best bet right now is to purchase them from your local coin dealer if possible, and expect to pay the premium.  Short of that, try ordering from the Mint directly, if you can stomach it.

That coin's as ugly as the guy portrayed on it!   Speaking of UGLY, remember the Susan B. Agony dollars? YIKES! But what can you expect from the U.S. Mint these days but JUNK?

How well I remember the Susie B Agony dollars! Seems that the dies weren't ready for the 'new Golden Dollar' (The Sac..Sacagawea dollar), so the U S mint dusted off the old Susie B dollar dies from 1979-1981 and re-ingraved the dies to 1999. The mint then minted the 1999 Susie B's for a yr after an 18 yr absence of minting that dollar. This gave the mint time to mint over 1.26 BILLION of the 1st yr of issue (2000) of the Sac, commonly called 'The Golden Dollar'.

Noticing that the mintage for the 1999-D (Denver) would be the lowest regular issue (11.8 million) of that (ugh!) dollar, I hit every bank in town and wiped them out of all of their 1999-D dollars rolls. Now for almost 9 yrs now, I've been sitting on many Susie B dollars. There is little demand for them and their value is minimal, so I'm thinking I should melt them down to cast a boat anchor.....it'd be cheaper than buying one.

I just returned from visiting my local bank (Bank of the West), and was told by the teller that the Jackson Dollars "would probably" be available in two to three weeks.

I know many collectors, including myself, who would like to buy a few rolls.  You would think the Government would be trying a little harder to make this easy money.

Bank officials I have worked with claim they ordered the dollars -- and they just haven't shown up yet.

Go figure!

Finally!!

Just returned home from trying another local bank (Wells Fargo), and they had some Jackson Dollars.

Any member wanting one, just supply me with your mailing address.  Cost:  Face value plus whatever you feel postage would be.

I got 8 of those nasty things out of a parking validation machine in A2 the other day, if I had known someone wanted them I wouldn't have given the nasty things to my wife to spend.  Otherwise if I had held them too long I might have scratched something not so nice into his mug.  Oh.  I do not like Andrew Jackson, in case you didn't know already.  He was a president that flaunted and abused the legal system and ignored the Supreme Court and the Congress.  He was a dictator.

I picked up a total of seven rolls of the D mint Jacksons between the first day of issue and the following day. I put a small number away for myself and distributed the bulk of them. It's always a hit at the coin club meeting when I pour a couple of rolls into a bowl and pass them around the room in an exchange during show and tell.
