WANTED - Buffalo Nickels
June 02, 2008, 03:00:55 PM
I would like to start up a US collection and buffalo nickels have caught my eye. If anyone would like to sell or trade please let me know. I would prefer to start my collection with fairly common coins (not too expensive) in reasonable condition with legible dates, no major defects etc. I have quite a few swaps of Aussie circulated decimal coins to trade if anyone is interested. I can do (almost) complete sets of Aussie 1c, 2c, 5c and 10c in pretty darn good circulated condition as well as most commemorative 20c and 50c coins.

My want list of Buffaloes (Updated 15 June 2008) I have 53 to go:

LordPercy, I feel I must warn you that Sir Twoshadows is very much against allowing any "Buffalo" Nickels out of the country, so it might be best to keep your desire to own some quiet  ;D ;D

He seems to have this obsession that no matter where they are, they all belong to him.  ;)  Please let us know if/when any manage to escape his clutches.  ::)  :D

I found another uncirculated buffalo nickel (1937) just today at my local coin shop. Don't see many in that condition like we did years ago and to keep it from leaving the country I ADDED it to my herd. Sorry Lord Percy this one stays in Indiana. Now my dealer does have quite a few buffalos on hand in other grades but I intend to pick them off one at a time as well. I might add I am well known for getting young kids hooked on the buffalo nickel in this part of the woods but I make sure, when I give them their first buffalo nickel, that it is a common date in a lower grade (Fine to Very Fine most of the time). Just wanted to make a point that I am not ALL bad!
A few weeks ago there was a young man in the coin shop, probably about 10 years old, with his father and he was completely ignoring those buffalo nickels!!! I asked my dealers wife to get one out for me, paid for it, and then handed it to that young man! I have set the hook!

Ah, Sir Twoshadows....We finally meet. Its great to see that you show the same enthusiasm as I for the humble Buffalo nickel. My plan is to raise this coin to the status that it deserves! However, I'm finding this a little hard to do with such a limited amount of stock available here in Aus. Perhaps you may be so kind as to release some of the sick or old stragglers, that cannot keep up with the rest of the herd to the land of Downunder for recouperation.

I shall consider your request my friend. I have a package going to Nevol SOON so I could throw in a few bulls if she would kindly forward them to you. I have changed jobs recently, been out of state training, so I am notoriosly behind in my endeavors. Packages need to go to the Netherlands, Australia and Croatia in the next few days to regain my favor with the Royal Collectors in those noble lands. Throw in a little flooding and I find myself in a big mess but I am working on it!!! :-[

The trap was set and the bait has been taken. Love it when a plan comes together!!! ;D
Now LordPercy I should explain the proper techniques in buffalo hunting. YOU TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET and worry about upgrading later. Many of the buffalos are getting expensive, especially in higher grades, but by the same token many are simply hard to find in any grade. If you make the effort to fill and entire collection, especially on a modest budget, one must accept the fact they will be lower grade nickels. If a better one comes along that is affordable by all means jump on it. I stumbled on to around 70 buffalos that I had sent to the back forty, so to speak, and I am currently going through them. Some of these low grade nickels would still bring $10, $20 and upwards so it was a good find. I will keep you and Nevol in mind when I finally decide what to keep and what will go. I am sure we can work something out that would benefit all involved. Glad to hear a small herd is alive and well in Australia. Can't think of a better place to keep them!

Sir Lord Percy:
Sir Twoshadows is correct.  First collect what ever you can get and complete the Set.
I have completed the Set long ago.
But some coins were in 'dark tone'       SIR GOOSE HAS KINDLY HELPED ME TO UPGRADE.  So you can kindly count the help of Sir Goose
Sincerely
George

It is by giving others, we actually receive from G
