Junior members, by age and country?

Without trying to be a 'nosey parker' I am interested in the forum's junior members.
I am wondering how many members we have under the age of 16 and what are their home countries.
I think that Snooba's got one hiding under her bed, any more?

You must differentiate betwixt chronological ages, and maturity ages, otherwise I might qualify for junior member according to my wife.   The male of the species really doesn't grow up per say, we just grow older and our toys and desires get more expensive.

Those members who were part of KOTCT in our former home may recall that I established a pair of listings which covered this subject.  When the plug was pulled, much of the information accumulated was lost.

The closest we can come in our present castle would be to look at the thread KOTCT Birthdays, where some members shared their birth year.  Checking that list out would identify a few of our younger members.

If interest is shown, I would be happy to start a new listing, and we can find who our youngest members are.

While on this topic, I have wondered for some time if I should nominate two of our grandkids for membership.  Both meet all the requirements for membership, but lack the sophistication that comes with age.  Both want to become members, but I remain uncertain as to whether I should nominate them, or allow them to mellow for a few months, or years.

Any opinion?

Scotty, you may consider yourself young at heart but 16 is 16.
If your passport says that you are over 16 then you don't qualify for the survey.
I might add, if we get enough participants,  that this could be a rewarding exercise.

Let's change the qualifications.

How many members have children seriously interested in following in the footsteps
of their mums and dads?

I have in mind the likes of 'coin boy' and 'coin girl' of whom CoinCrusader 42 is so proud.

This could be fun so bring your family out of the closset, the more the merrier.

At this stage in their lives, my children show no interest at all, either in my coins or stamps.

My son (9 next week) has an interest in accumulation, but no appreciation for the coins themselves.  My 6 year old daughter just might be developing an interest, as she always asks me about the foriegn coins she finds in the coinstar machine.  She also enjoys helping me sort through my coins and checking the dates with my loupe for me.

Maybe going back to Ukraine - UA in August.  Excited at the thought of seeing all the changes since last there.

Neither of my 2 sons is interested in carrying on my collection, although the youngest did buy me 2 rather expensive coins in 2006. I think he looked on it as a long term investment as he'll eventually be getting the collection.   

When he sees the prices some coins fetch on Ebay & asks if I've got any, finds out I do, he says "sell sell sell".  In his defence, he does know the rarer coins & approx what they might be worth.

My 3.5 year old wants it all.  Any and all forms of monetary instruments.  The more the better.  The others could care less, unless it can be spent.  I showed a $1K bill to my oldest daughter once, and she asked if it could be spent to buy a Wii.

Regarding our family:

Son Michael -- Collects offers from the U.S. Mint.  Has purchased several of the anniversary ASE sets, as well as a pair of first lady (Jefferson) gold coins.  Also likes the Australian silver Lunar Series coins and has the 1 ounce set.  Probably not a true numismatist because of a lack of free time due to his work as an attorney and on various Boards.  He will enherit a majority of my coins.

Daughter Michelle -- Collects Mint offerings, and often times buys coins which she intends to pass on to her children.  She also is very busy, heading a VA clinic, working at two hospitals, and just now completing two master's degrees.  Like Michael, not a true numismatist, due to a lack of time to devote to the hobby.

Son Mitchell -- He is a numismatist, but being a teacher he really doesn't have the funds at this time in his life to add a great deal to his collection.  He taught for a while in England, and brought home some English coins.  He adds to his collection when possible.  He collects coins and baseball cards, and when things settle down for him, I have every reason to believe he will enjoy numismatics and add to his collection.

Granddaughter Tricia -- Has a large box of coins, about 50-50 U.S. and foreign.  She has a Redbook and makes use of it.  Loves ASE's.  Kids her age have many interests, but I think she will continue to have an interest in coin collecting as she grows older.

Grandson Daniel -- Has a good collection of foreign coins.  As he grows older I think he will maintain his coin collecting interest.

Granddaughter Alison -- She has folders for Statehood Quarters and a few other coins.  I have no idea if her interest will continue as she grows older.

Grandson Nicholas -- Also has a few coin folders. I don't know if the interest will continue as time goes by.

Grandson Christiaan -- He has lots of foreign coins, and especially likes to collect coins with animals depicted on them.  My guess is that his interest will continue.

Granddaughter Kaitlyn -- We only see Kaitlyn a few times a year, and so haven't had the opportunity yet to give her coins or to judge if she will enjoy the hobby.  She will spend some time with us this summer, so we'll find out if she enjoys collecting.

I have 1 male and 2 female children....all adults, and none of them show any interest in my collection.......so I am going to spend it before I go.

No kids of my own, but trying to 'groom' my 2 year old nephew. Have been starting an Aussie $1 unc and a baby mint and year mint set collection for him, hoping that by the time he is old enough he can help keep up the collection using his own pocket money. He is showing potential. I gave him a bid red car money box (which he keeps at his Nanna's house) for his first birthday. Whenever he can get a hold of anyone's wallet, he takes out all the coins and transfers them carefully to his money box.

To clear up any confusion, including Gary's, the Grail is a crock of about 600 mixed international coins.

Muckeye, on behalf of my two, thank you.  Fortunately, my son has an 3-ring binder that we've been putting his foreign coins into.  I'll have to make one up for my daughter now.  I just hope they don't get any coins I don't have yet!  LOL  Someone let me know where to send postage costs.

Okay, Now it makes sense.

When I came home from my volunteer hospital work this afternoon, I spotted a package my wife had brought in from the mailbox.

At first I thought it contained my long-awaited Aussie One Dollar Dansco Album.  Then, I picked it up and instantly realized it was no album.

Boy was it heavy!!  I estimated about 10 pounds.  Cost better than $10 to mail it.  The return address stated only that it came from Gilbert, Arizona.  No sender's name.

I opened the package and found hundreds of foreign coins.

I thought that perhaps by checking KOTCT, I might get a clue as to the sender.  Yep, sure enough!

Well anyway, how nice and thoughtful!!

I will be happy to do my part.

When I receive addresses, I will mail the coins, and then advise recipients what the postage cost.

Again, what a nice gesture!!

Okay, I have all addresses except for Snooba.   Hopefully she'll sent it tomorrow.

If you want to repay me for postage and handling, a coin would be nice.  One from Australia and one from Canada would be great.

I've given out about 100 foreign coins.  Should have kept them and added them to Muckeye's coins to make an even better stash.

My wife and two grandkids spent a fun hour tonight, looking through the coins, then watched a movie.

We'll try and divide them up tomorrow.

The coins have already had a positive effect.

Grandkids Tricia (Coin Girl) and Daniel (Coin Boy) showed up late last night because their Mother had to work.  For better than an hour, they, along with my wife and I, were fascinated as we looked through the coins.

The two grandkids are already coin collectors, but their fascination with the coins which Muckeye provided just added to their interest.
