Australian one dollar UNC collection
October 18, 2007, 09:08:21 PM
Well it took all day and several failed upload attempts, but it is finally ready.  ;D
Following is my $1 Aussie UNC collection. These are circulation coins and NCLT coins, and have all come from mint sets and envelopes as applicable. Please enjoy.

It is interesting to note that since the introduction of the Australian one dollar coin in 1984, there has been 23 years go past, but there has been 108 different coins issued in the same timeframe, not including die varieties, 16 coming from this year, 2007, alone. It is a wonderful hobby that we indulge in eh. Cheers.

Rusty,

As I've said before, that is one fine collection and now nicer with the newer coins

Great set of coins, I especially like the painted coins(which I do not usually like) they really set them off.

Can you imagine the confusion in the US if there were that many dollar coins each year, I guess that starting in 2009 there will be 8 for us though, 4 presidents and 4 Sacs.

I had two of the Dolphin coins -- one for my wife and one for our daughter.  They really like them.

As soon as I complete my 50 and 20 Cent Piece collection, I think I'll start on the dollars.  Eventually I hope to have a collection similar to that posted above.

My Australian collection wouldn't amount to much if it wasn't for Triggersmob, muckeye, and especially Gregk!!

That's very impressive Rusty. I don't think I've seen them all together before.

You may not realise the difficulty of putting together a set like this at this time CC42.

I think I've missed the boat putting together a dollar set like this. If one was a dollar collector from the start and kept at it then a set like this would be feasible. To do it at this stage so long after release with the price increases some coins have gone through would be extremely expensive. The 2000 VC goes for around $200 alone. That's the sort of price a bullion sovereign goes for. Then again better to start now than in 10 years time. That would hurt!

Bm,
As there are only 3 spaces left, I will get a new blank album and pages to continue the set, as it is getting too thick now. I look forward to seeing any new ones for 2008. Cheers.

Great collection.

However it does look as though I'll have to be a bit more selective when it comes to putting togerther a dollar collection.

I'm still looking for a way to get a Dansco Dollar Album.

According to a notice just received, the long-awaited Dansco Album is on its way to me.

Looking at, and admiring, Rusty's collection once again, I do believe I'll have to specialize my album once it arrives, and collect far fewer coins than the collection posted at the beginning of this thread.

I just got my Dansce $1 and $2 albums. I have a few of the $1 coins already. I didn't realize there were so many coins released each year. I'm going to have to buy at least two more pages to start off with. Do the colorized coins circulate or are they only for sets?

Colorized coins do not circulate & most aren't even in Sets, or to qualify that, they're not in Mint/Proof sets.  They may be part of sets, as in a six coin set that was a "fishy'' type theme.  6 coins issued in 3 pairs over a period of time, all NCLT or as you folks know it NIFC.  A lot of them are "one of a kind" issues.

Circulating Australian One dollar coins - 1984 to 2008 plus Mintage figures in Millions.

1984   Mob of Roos - 186.3
1985   Mob of Roos - 96.2
1986   Year of Peace - 25.2
1987   Collector Coins Only
1988   Australia's Bi-Cent  - 21.6
1989   Collector Coins Only
1990   Collector Coins Only
1991   Collector Coins Only
1992   Collector Coins Only

1993   Landcare - 18.2
1994   Mob of Roos - 47.6
1995   Mob of Roos - 21.4
1996   Henry Parkes - 26.2
1997   Kingsford Smith - 24.4
1998   Mob of Roos - 16.2
1999   Year of Older Persons - 29.3
2000   Mob of Roos - 7.6
2001   Centenary of Federation - 27.9
2001   Year of Volunteer - 6.0
2002   Year of Outback -  35.4
2003   Australia's Volunteers - 4.1
2003   Women's Suffrage 10.0 (2 diff sized reverses)
2004   Mob of Roos  - 8.8
2005   Mob of Roos  - 5.8
2005   60th Anniversary End of WWII  - 34.2
2006   Mob of Roos  - 26.7
2007   APEC - 20.1
2008   Mob of Roos – Mintage not yet released
2008   Centenary of Aust Scouting – Coins not circulating yet

By Collector Coins Only, I mean that any $1 coins minted in these years did not go into circulation.  They may well have been available for purchase as individual coins and in Mint/Proof Sets, but did not go into general circulation.

As I explained in another thread, I took the easy way out, and used my new Dansco One Dollar Album to put together a year set.  Then, on the last page of the album I placed coins with different reverses than I used in the year set.

My set is nothing like Rusty's, but I am pleased with it.

Australian one dollar 25mm type
June 11, 2008, 02:40:41 AM
I'm an avid Aussie dollar collector and have to have every type there is of the standard circulating size of 25mm - be it circulating, non-circulating, FRUNC, specimen, proof, silver, gold, coloured, variety, etc. Packaging is not such an issue for me though.

Below is a list of dollar coins by year, designer, theme, issue, finish, metal, variety and mintage. I'll start with the coins of the 1980s first, all struck at the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.

1984   Rev. Stuart Devlin's Mob of Five Kangaroos; Obv. Arnold Machin's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; Aluminium Bronze; Circulation 185,985,000; Carded Unc 538,358; Proof in Case 159,340; Carded $1 Five Coin Collection (Restrike 1993/94) 16,702.

1985   Rev. Stuart Devlin's Mob of Five Kangaroos; Obv. Raphael Maklouf's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; Aluminium Bronze; Circulation 96,200,000; Mint Set Unc 170,000; Proof in Set 74,089; Carded $1 Five Coin Collection (Restrike 1993/94) 16,702.

1986   Rev. Horst Hahne's International Year of Peace; Obv. Raphael Maklouf's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; Aluminium Bronze; Circulation 25,100,000; Mint Set Unc 180,000; Proof in Set 67,000; Carded $1 Five Coin Collection (Restrike 1993/94) 16,702.

1987   Rev. Stuart Devlin's Mob of Five Kangaroos; Obv. Raphael Maklouf effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; Aluminium Bronze; Mint Set Unc 200,000; Proof in Set 69,684.

1988   Rev. Stuart Devlin's First Fleet Bicentenary (Aboriginal Art Styled Kangaroo); Obv. Raphael Maklouf's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; Aluminium Bronze; Circulation 20,400,000; Mint Set Unc (Coin Fair) 10,000; Mint Set Unc 290,940; Proof in Set (Coin Fair) 3,000 Proof in Set 101,518; Carded $1 Five Coin Collection (Restrike 1993/94) 16,702; Sterling Silver Proof in Masterpieces Set (Coin Fair) 5,000; Sterling Silver Proof in Masterpieces Set 19,970.

Note: For 93, 94 & 95, it is unknown at this time if the above C Mintmark mintage figures include the Mint Your Own coins on the RAM Visitors Gallery press or if the other Mintmark mintages include or are for the coins struck at the Shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne respectively. The odd number for the Silver Proofs are the extra few coins struck for the RAM Museum Collection.
