What do you do with your cruddy coins?

Just interested it what you guys do with your old crappy coins that have gone green or are damaged in some way.

I store mine in an old KOTCT mug. Not sure what I'll do with them when that is full. Might be a while yet though.

That's the same message I get got when trying to upload  the photo of the coloured canandian $2 coin.

Many of those in the mug, aren't from Aus, so I can't release them. Some I could.

I try not to get too many of them. Some I end up getting anyway. If it's not a particularly scarce coin, I might use them for coin cleaning experiments. I have an EDTA-based formula that I've been experimenting with, with some success.

Coins that seem to "clean up OK" I keep, to watch for long-term adverse affects of the cleaning.

I try cleaning experiments as well or released back to the wild. I hope the green death doesn't contaminate your mug Steve, maybe put either a plastic cup or bag in to protect it or do you think the mug would be safe.

I don't use it for drinking out of. It's just for show. I think it will be OK.

I have seen that product before, but I've always wondered whether it would be allowed to shipped through the post.

I don't know what Badthad puts in to make Verdi-Care; it's a proprietary formula, so I doubt he'd tell you if you asked. But the material safety data sheet from Wizard Coin Supply says it's non-hazardous and non-dangerous for shipping, so you should be able to ship it via any means that you could use to ship water.

He also claims it's non-corrosive; the MSDS says the pH is 7.5, so that seems a fair statement. It must contain a chelating agent that is also non-toxic; if I had to guess, I'd say it's triethanolamine-based, or something chemically related. Which would also make sense in that he was originally trying to invent a surface protectant; he serendipitously found that it removed verdigris too.

Just keep an eye on ya mug as it's a KOTCT so I'd hate to see it get destroyed 
Try a wd type spray Steve as I find that works well 
Acetone on PVC and glue type substances.
They say olive oil is good for verdigris but you have to let it soak for months on end and I haven't had the patience to try that one (yes me not having patience is pretty funny so who would have guessed that LOL) so I tried quick fixes and found WD-40 or CRC does the job, just make sure you give them a good rinse in hot soapy water and dry well. Remembering all the time not to wipe the coin just pat it and any harder bits use a tooth pick.

BUT only do this for the preservation of coins not to make them pretty to sell. Yes I know your like me and prefer to give coin away but just saying

I do have bottle of acetone and that does work well on PVC and sticky stuff.
I have tried olive oil, with very little success, even after soaking for a year.
WD40 was better, but still not perfect. I have key date Lincoln cent that
really should be treated and I wanted to use a good product on it. I think
the Verdi-Care might be the way to go.
You're right mate, I prefer to trade or give them away. Not into selling coins.
Talking about that, keep an eye on the mail box in the next few days.
