Holiday Time
January 26, 2016, 10:31:14 AM
Just wanted to let you all know, that I will be away on holiday for about 2 weeks and will be uncontactable.
I fly out of Perth on Thursday morning at 5.30am and then sail out of Sydney on Friday.
If you want to follow the cruise, you can see where we are going on bridgecam.
The ship is Dawn Princess.

Take care of the Castle while I'm gone.
See you later. :)

Thanks guys.
We are back home now.
David, the kids were still at home to look after the place,
but with a record heatwave while we were gone (temps over 40c), I bet they
wished they could turn the air con up, but we don't have any.  :'(

With the humidity we have here in the hills that kind of temp would be tough to bear. Been a little cool around here lately. !5° to 18° F about -8° or -10°c. Hope the kids made it ok. How was the cruse?

The kids survived OK.
Cruise was really nice, but didn't find enough new coins or banknotes. :(
I will post pics later.

Because even the islands are on their way to a ''cashless society'' (the concept is a nightmare for me) or because you had just bad luck?

Wasn't Vanuatu hit by a severe tropical storm (taifun?) not long ago? Did they revover from it yet?

I didn't find enough coins because not enough time was spent in place I could find them. When we arrive at a port, we jump on a guided tour and that drops us back at the ship, so we don't see many shops. There was a few places that I managed to buy items and asked them for local money for change.
There was a cyclone went through Vanuatu not long ago. There is still signs of damage there. Mainly fallen trees that haven't been cleared away yet. It will happen eventually, it's called Island time. :)
There was also 2 cyclones that passed nearby recently (this year) and we were hoping that another one wouldn't form while we were out there. We were lucky that the weather was perfect, if not a little hot and sticky.

Some pics...
If they are too big. Right click on them and open them in another window.

Sydney...
We had a super cell storm hit us, just after we boarded the ship. We had visions of been pounded out in the ocean,
but an hour later the skies were clear again.

The weather was mostly fine and the seas were calm.
We enjoyed some nice Chocobanana mocktails on the cruise.

We did a tour of Noumea and ended up at a gun emplacement on top of a hill, left over from WWII.
Later that night we had a beautiful sunset. Pic taken from our balcony.

Next stop was the Island of Mare.
We took a bus ride to the other side of the island and back again.
No shopping done here, someone left the wallets in the safe, Me!
Our ship was the Dawn Princess.

Next stop was Vila in Vanuatu.
We did a boat tour of the Blue lagoon.
Very pretty, but still some damage from the recent cyclone.

This is the best port to buy your duty free grog too.
Check out the cheap prices.

Champagne Bay was next.
Crystal clear water and beautiful beach.
Not much else though, other than souveneir stalls.

Cruising is also a nice time to relax, read a book and watch the world go by.

Lifou was our final port of call.
We took a tour to the Cliffs of Jokin.
Nice scenery, and also included a tour of the vanilla plantation.

No sunburn, I have darker olive complexion, so don't burn to easy. The wife got a little sunburnt on the forehead on the first day.
I made sure she wore her hat after that.

LOL, don't be jealous, just make a booking. San Francisco to Hawaii would be nice this time of year. :)
