Cruise was really nice, but didn't find enough new coins or banknotes.
Because even the islands are on their way to a ''cashless society'' (the concept is a nightmare for me) or because you had just bad luck?
Wasn't Vanuatu hit by a severe tropical storm (taifun?) not long ago? Did they revover from it yet?
I didn't find enough coins because not enough time was spent in place I could find them. When we arrive at a port, we jump on a guided tour and that drops us back at the ship, so we don't see many shops. There was a few places that I managed to buy items and asked them for local money for change.
There was a cyclone went through Vanuatu not long ago. There is still signs of damage there. Mainly fallen trees that haven't been cleared away yet. It will happen eventually, it's called Island time.

There was also 2 cyclones that passed nearby recently (this year) and we were hoping that another one wouldn't form while we were out there. We were lucky that the weather was perfect, if not a little hot and sticky.
