Remembering...CoinCrusader
October 13, 2015, 03:23:58 PM
Gary Burke was a founding member of the Knights of the Coin Table, another online coin collecting club, (he was known as CoinCrusader) and he was very involved with the production and distribution of the annual club medals being offered by the KotCT since 2007. Gary's fellow Coloradoan, Daniel Carr, is the medal designer, and he would ship Gary all the medals, and Gary would ship them out individually to all the members of the KotCT worldwide, including a bulk shipment to Australia for further distribution locally there. Gary's favorite style KotCT medal was the 63mm pewter, which the KotCT has kept up, along with the 39mm medals, mostly at Gary's urging. At this time, the KotCT is working with Daniel Carr to create a special commemorative 63mm pewter medal as a tribute to Gary. The KotCT wishes to make this medal available, inexpensively, to any people who have enjoyed numismatics along with Gary.  One image being discussed as a component of the medal is a turtle, since that is the animal he depicted as carrying the medals across the oceans to deliver to the members, slow but sure. A proposed motto is: "Shipping Friendship Around the World". And not only did Gary himself participate in numismatics, but numerous members of his family joined right along with him.

If you can remember, When Gary knew his days were numbered he and his wife set out on a trip to the east coast. He said he had never traveled to New England and always wanted to go, so they did. On his way back he stopped at Terry Adams home to meet and visit with him. I was lucky enough to be there too to meet and greet Gary. His health was poor and he had trouble moving around but I remember his spirits were high. We all talked and laughed for a good while then he said he needed to go. It was hard to keep it together when he said, "It's hard to believe that this is our first and last time we will ever see each other".

It was a good day and a sad one all at the same time. But, I'm truly glad it happened....

Thanks for sharing that precious memory Terry.
I didn't realise he was that sick, when he made that trip.

Nice to see you here Amr. Did my parcel of stamps ever reach you?
Maybe TKO could add a stamp collecting section.
