"The reason the eagle is so small on the Benjamin Franklin commemorative half-dollar is because Franklin opposed the use of the eagle as our country's national symbol.  Franklin's bird of choice? The noble (and great tasting) turkey!"

Very interesting.

I knew that Franklin favored the turkey, but didn't know that was why the eagle was so small on the coin.
