2014 KOTCT Coffee Mug
October 20, 2014, 02:47:37 PM
The coffee mug is a great idea Templar! I would still like to do the 2014 medal, but we should be able to do a coffee mug pretty easily.  I believe you can share pictures to print things like a coffee mug on with both shutterfly and snapfish.  I am not sure if they ship to all of the counties of all of our members, so members may have to check their areas. Once we get a design, we should be able to just have one shipped straight from the site.

Any design ideas? I think it would be cool to have all of the member names strategically placed on a cool picture or mosaic, maybe as a boarder, or on the edges.

What do you think about a mug with several different coin pictures on it? Mabye each member that is interested could post a picture of thier favorite coin from thier collection on this thread, and they could be downloaded and spliced together. Here is a sample mug with some generic pictures of what they could look like. Imagine coins instead of people in the squares, and we could fit a lot more coin squares than that on it though.

SOMETIMES THE CUPS WITH PICTURES ON THEM ARE PLACED ON A STRIP IN A PLASTIC CUP SEALED INTO A CLEAR CUP---THEY ARE OK BUT IF THEY GETA CRACK LIQUIDS GET BETWEEN THE PICTURES AND THE CUP IS NO GOOD---THE PORCELINE CUP HAS THE PICTURE PUT ON AND IT LASTS LONGER---WE COULD PUT THE KNIGHT AND DATE ON THAT TYPE..............

I agree Templar, the ceramic mugs are definitely the way to go.  As far as pricing is concerned, both snapfish and shutterfly mark up their prices, and usually have an offer code of 40 to 60 percent off.  For example, a plain white mug from shutterfly with a printed picture will run 15 dollars for an 11 oz mug, and 17 dollars for a 15 oz mug.  With the current offer of 40 percent off it would be 9 dollars for the 11 oz, and 10 dollars for the 15 oz.  The price goes up a few bucks for a two tone mug if you would want it that way. Here is a link to a shutterfly mug page:

http://www.shutterfly.com/photo-gifts/photo-mugs/joy-love-family-mug?productCode=1084153&categoryCode=1084035&skuCode=1100257

I'm not sure if they ship outside the US. If they do, we could each pay for our own mug on the sight and have it shipped directly. I think we would be able to do it for less that $20 each. This would avoid the high international shipping costs.

If we go ahead with this, it might be best to use a standard picture for all of us, but get them printed in our own country. I just checked the cost of printing them in Perth and it would be about AUD$9 each, plus postage.

I THINK THAT IS THE WAY TO GO---WE COULD DECIDE ON THE PICTURE---PICK THE COLOR--DATE---AND IF WE COULD ALL GET A WEB SITE EVEN IN AUSTRALIA---WE COULD ALL ORDER OUR OWN---OR SHIP TO ONE PERSON TO REMAIL TO THE MEMBERS INTERESTED---THE KNIGHT ON HORSEBACK---THE LETTERS KOTCT.COM--- THE DATE 2014 ON THE MUG---BY PUTTING OUR WEB ADDRESS ON THE MUG OTHERS MIGHT WANT TO COLLECT ONE WHEN THEY SEE OURS............

How about something like this? With Knights of the Coin Table, the website, all of the member names, a cool knight pic in the middle surrounded by coins picked by each member.  The pictures are just some picked from the website, but I would like it if everyone who wanted to picked one to place around the knight.  We should also find a better knight pick, I just used the one from the picture above for an example.  The resolution came out a little funny since I put it together for a rough example with Microsoft paint. The picture resolution should come out a lot nicer using another program. I did forget to add the date somewhere, maybe right under the knight? What do you think?

I think something like that would be OK.
Just have to be a bit selective as to which Knights names go on the cup.
Some have signed up and never posted. Others have passed away, but
I'm all for leaving their names on. Once a Knight always a Knight.

Re: 2014 KOTCT Coffee Mug

On the sample pic, I included all of the names that are currently listed on the members tab.  The Admins for our group have done a pretty good job of taking out the people who register and do not post.  There are a total of 42 (without taking out anyone) on the sample pic and they all fit nicely.  The only names that I see on the list with less than 10 posts are Bagerap (1), Bigfella (9), cmt-WR (0), Dan luster (0), and usarok (3).  I know Dan Luster had posted not too long ago, and was a member before his new screen name was added.  According to recent posts, Bigfella has been in contact with Barry recently.  I personally would vote to leave the names of Knights who have passed away on the list.

The only three on the current list that I am not sure of would be cmt-WR, who has not posted since joining. Bagerap who has 1 post, and usarok who has 3 posts.  Does anyone think any of these 3 should stay on the list, or should they be removed?  Either way 39 or 42 names will fit on the mug just fine,  42 already fit as shown on the sample.

It is noted to change Erik's name on the mug to Knight Brehovsky.

Another idea to ponder...  How about putting "Darkside World Coin Collectors"  under Knights of the coin table?  Just a thought, what do you think? Here are a few Dark Knight Pics that I found online any votes for a favorite for the Knight Picture that would go in the middle? My vote would be for picture 3 if we go with the Darkside phrase. Please post any othere Knight pictures that you might like here, and please post a picture of a favorite coin from your collection that you would like to see on the mug.

I was hoping to have at least 12 coin pictures from members to make a design like the sample. We have 2 so we still need 10 (or more). If we can get 10 more pictures posted on this thread by this weekend,  I will work splicing them together.  Are there any other votes for the knight picture for the middle?

I have done some work on the 2014 Knights mug, and here is what I came up with:

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=1Abt3DFq0auHFQ

If you click on the link, you should be able to click on the mug and rotate it around to see what it looks like on a mug. I didn't include the coins since there was only two on the thread.  Let me know what you think.  We can change the inside color of the mug, but I think the red looks good with the red eyes on the horse.  I made the picture the correct dimensions for a 15 ounce mug, which seems to be a standard 9 x 4.3 inches.  With a colored inside on a 15 ounce mug shutterfly charges 20 dollars, but they have a 30 percent off sale right now. I think they would be a good place to order from in the US since my sister gave me a printed mug through them and it came out great. The attached picture should work good for all of the Knights in other countries.  Do you like it, or does it need some changes?

Re: 2014 KOTCT Coffee Mug

I tried the checkout, and it looks like the price for shipping on one mug to the US is 7 dollars for 1 mug, and 10 dollars for 2 mugs.  It seems to be about 12 dollars to ship overseas. This may be inaccurate, so hopefully someone from outside the US will check the checkout and post their results.

As far as pricing goes on the shutterfly website, it varies a lot depending on what promotions are going on. This seems to be the industry standard... mark the prices up then have "big" sales.  Unfortunately the 35 percent off site wide sale seems to have ended yesterday.  The new sale on shutterfly is free shipping on orders over 39 dollars.  I am not sure if this includes shipping to Australia, and other countries, but that may be a good deal for the Knights that are not from the USA if using shutterfly.  I checked a few other sights, but I think that shutterfly is the best one in the US to get a great quality print on a ceramic mug with the colored inside.

On black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) or Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving), all of the photo sites have huge sitewide sales.  This may be the best time to grab a great deal on the mug.  There might be better sites in Australia to order from, since the shipping may make the mug too expensive. Maybe some of our overseas Knights can try the checkout to see if the free shipping applies to other countries too.

It seems like everyone that posted so far like the design, so I will probably have one made, and make my wife another mosaic mug to get the free shipping deal.  Those who wait for the thanksgiving deals will probably get a much better deal.

I think it will work best for each knight to order his or her mug.  Shipping can be free or an add on depending on what site the mug is ordered, or what deal is avalible at the time.  I think we would pay more to have it shipped to one place, and then shipped to each knight. If shutterfly works for you, this link should make it easy to order:

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=1Abt3DFq0auHFQ

You may be able to get a better deal if you look around a little, or wait for a better sale, but you should be able to order it pretty simply by following the link above.

For Aussie members, I have checked out Vistaprint.
Mugs are $10.99 for single unit and $7.99 postage.
If you buy more, you can save on the price of the mug,
but then you would pay extra to ship them around Aus.

There is no time frame for ordering, but shutterfly does have 35 percent off mugs right now. The link in this thread will get you to the mug for 13.17, with about 7 dollars shipping. If you order more than 39 dollars shipping is free to the US. They change the offers all of the time.
