Truecrypt RIP
May 28, 2014, 08:38:49 PM
Looks like Truecrypt is now dead.

http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/05/truecrypt-is-not-secure-official-sourceforge-page-abruptly-warns/

Our feelings at work is that version 7.1a is no more unsecure than it was yesterday.

By reading various sources, the reasons why is was pulled is not 100% clear.

I don't know anything about TrueCrypt.
How will it's death affect us?

For the Microsoft Windows platform, it forces uses who want encryption into using the Bitlocker software that comes as standard with some versions of Windows.

Truecrypt was popular since it was a third party software package for encryption.

So if you don't use encryption, this does not affect you but does if you need in the future, there is one less option to chose from.
