Joe, was there only 12 Confederate states at the time of printing that first note? The Confederate flag only has 12 stars, unlike the picture you posted which has 13 stars. Did they add an extra one in the middle, later?

Actually, there were seven states are the start:

South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.

So the first flag had 7 stars.

Then Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina joined.

Missouri and Kentucky were represented by partisan factions from those states (states had dual governments).

West Virginia broke away from Virginia was admitted to the Union during the US Civil War.

Nevada also joined the Union during the US Civil War as well.

Kansas became a state 3 months before the opening battle of the US Civil War.

It's amazing how much controversy there still is around the flag. Lots of schools and other places will not let the kids wear anything with the South's flag on it. Myself I think most of the trouble comes from teachers desire to be poetically correct and not offend anyone. Not realizing they are offending more with this attitude.
