IF I HAD A MILLION $$$
August 14, 2010, 11:46:12 PM
I'm just interested in hearing about what you would do if you inherited or won a million dollars today? What would you do with the money? I am known in my family to be very frugal when it comes to money; I've always been that way, regardless if I had a little or a lot of money. Personally I would pay off my house, buy me a brand new F-150, and then get myself a modest cottage on a lake somewhere up north where I could spend the weekends and my retirement, and where I could fish everyday. (The cottage would at least have to be big enough to house my library & my coins!). I think the rest of the money would be invested in gold & silver coins. I have NEVER lost money investing in precious metals. Well that's what I would do with a million bucks! How 'bout you?   :)

$300,000 to pay off my mortgage and fix up the house.
$700,000 to build an investment property, so I can spend the rental income.

Already got the F-150 (me and he Bank  ;D) got a house and am already retired. But the wife isn't so I reckon I would retire her out, invest a good part, help my kids some (would have to go easy on that or they would gladly take it all). These are all just common sense things I would do but for the fun part the wife and I would head north. I here there is some real nice folks up there. Might even try a plane trip if I could get her on it, she has never flown. Would like to go south, way south.  ;D

A MILLION DOLLARS SOUNDED LIKE THE END OF THE WORLD A FEW YEARS AGO............NOW ITS ALMOST AN INSULT TO SOME PEOPLE....THEY TALK ABOUT A BILLION DOLLARS...BUT I WOULD BE QUITE HAPPY WITH A MILLION......FAMILY FIRST.....HELP PAY OFF SOME COLLEGE LOANS.....MY CHURCH AND A FEW CHARITIES.........SOME FOR A RAINY DAY......THEN SPLIT THE REST WITH MY WIFE AND TELL HER TO DO WHAT SHE WANTS WITH HERS AND DON'T BOTHER ME ABOUT MINE...........BUY SOME FIRST EDITIONS AND A VERY COMFORTABLE CHAIR TO READ THEM IN.........AND UP MY GRADE OF LIQUOR TO SIP WHILE I READ.............TEMPLAR

If I had a million $ I would pay off the kids' houses. Then I would stash the remainder in some sort of UN-guv'ment interest bearing account. Under no circumstances would I give a penny to anyone coming to me for a handout...churches, clubs, vets' organizations, or government entities.

Now I would have to give.  ;D I'm a big believer that if you have you should help them who don't have. Got to use wisdom through.  ;D

P-coins, I gladly donate to various organizations quite regularly, but if/when I'm found out that I had a $million, it would open the floodgate to begging.

I think I'd have my house demolished and rebuild with a granny flat attached so that I could rent that out for some income to support my numismatic habit after I retire. Would probably set up a trust fund for each of the 'younger generation' family members to help them with their tertiary education. Then I'd ....... hang on - think I've just about run out!

I'd buy a nice big block of land, build a huge one level house with no steps and a nice big airy Hobby (Coin) room. I'd sell up where I am now, give my 2 sons a gift and then enjoy myself buying coins, coins and more coins! But....I'd invest a certain amount, maybe $100,000 as my security blanket.
