AS WE APPROACH ST.PATRICK'S DAY ..........I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF HOW IT IS CELEBRATED IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS...............IN SOUTH EAST MICHIGAN WE HAVE A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WITH IRISH ANCESTORS.....THE SUNDAY BEFORE--WE PAINT LARGE GREEN SHAMROCKS ON MICHIGAN AVENUE WHICH IS WERE THE IRISH FIRST SETTLED---THE AREA IS CALLED "CORK TOWN" AND THE GAELIC LEAGUE IS LOCATED THERE( IT IS ONE OFF THE OLDEST IRISH ESTABLISHNENTS AROUND AND THEY HEAD UP THE PARADE AND PROMOTE MANY EVENTS TO KEEP THE CULTURE ALIVE---------AND THERE ARE DOZENS OF BARS THAT PROVIDE MUSIC AND FOOD YEAR ROUND.........SURE ITS A GRAND TIME---MANY OF MICHIGAN'S IRISH CAME AFTER THE ERIE CANAL WAS COMPLETED c.1830---IN THE CIVIL WAR MANY MADE UP MICHIGAN'S IRON BRIGADE......AND GEORGE CUSTER WAS IRISH AND FROM MICHIGAN---FOR WHAT IT S WORTH

We don't celebrate it in any big way over here.
They serve green beer in the Irish pubs and lots of people get drunk, but that's about it.

It is celebrated in a big way with a parade that is about the biggest event in town, there is also a marathon that day.  Here it is being celebrated on the 21st, a Sunday.

Lots of drinking and drunkiness here too. Alot of Irish people in Missouri as well. We also have alot of Germans, so Octoberfest is celebrated as well. I'm 75% German and 25% Irish, so I have a good excuse to celebrate both! Kansas City, MO, which is 2 hours west of me (I lived there for a while too) has the third biggest St. Patrick's day parade. As for green beer, I think they serve them at some bars, but I don't know anyone who actually drinks that stuff. Usually myself and some friends always chug a drink called an Irish Car Bomb. Anyone ever heard of those?
