New Silver Eagles for the KOTCT Store?
January 02, 2010, 06:24:34 AM
Would there be any interest in buying 2010 bullion coins, such as an occassional silver eagle, silver koala, silver panda or silver philharmonic, to add to the Kotct store? They would NOT be sold as a profit item but stictly as a benefit to our Knights and Knightesses who might desire them. Of course there will be shipping added to the final cost but I am sure we can beat charges by international dealers or Ebay. Let me know and PLEASE understand these will be puchased with funds from the KOTCT TREASURY.I know, between me, Templar and Nighthawk, we might be able to keep a few on hand starting with the 2010 releases. From time to time I know I might stumble onto a very good deal on silver but will not proceed without the blessing of all of you. Just a thought and I am awaiting yours.
For what it is worth, should we every be left with any, I/We can always sell them back to a local dealer.

Templar and Nighthawk can probably acquire them slightly cheaper than I can. But if they ever have any issues getting them, my local dealer usually stays stocked up  ;)

Not for me thanks, I'm trying to stick to circulated coinage only.
Where do you stop, otherwise?

Triggersmob I appreciate your dedication to some sort of limits!!! I have NONE! So do you FAVOR or NOT FAVOR keeping some silver on hand for members? (that was the question and your opinion means much to all of us.)

To the rest of you I have sad news! The United States Mint has halted production, at this time, on all silver eagles due to demands that exceed their silver inventory! I am not sure what that means other than they are waiting for a price increase? So I intend to look for older date eagles and am currently in discussions with a dealer (US) for a few silver 2009 Austrian Philharmonics. I have also looked into Pandas and Koalas but have not found anything I am comfortable with as of this posting. Unless someone firmly objects I will keep looking for fair purchases in small quanities to keep on hand. Sadly it seems I can buy silver Koalas cheaper here than I can out of Australia?

I found out just today that I can buy batteries for RC Planes directly from Hong Kong for a fraction of what they cost here in the states. $40 to $65 batteries for $7 and $13 respectfully. Yes the shipping is a bit more at $15 but still look at the savings due to conversion rates! All my electronics will probably be ordered direct from here on out! The difference is HUGE and I can wait a few days longer for the mail to arrive at those savings. Now if we could just find the same deal on our silver!!! ;)

Twoshadows, it's not so much a dedication to limits, but a limit of $$$$.
I am in favour of keeping silver coins in the KOTCT store though, if others want them.

Watch out for Hong Kong though
An acqaintance of mine bought a pda for a quarter of the price but it never ever arrived and loving and caring ebay their best efforts  ;D were not enough

Also I suppose you have import taxes which might be a surprise if the things are not sent as
watch parts

Where I am going I ain't certain
Where I am going I don't know

Well I never gave import taxes a thought as I never order much with a great value that would draw their attention. I can't even tell you what the limits are before taxes would kick in. I sure wouldn't want anyone sending me a big box of gold unless it is just marked as "hobby supplies"!

You ought to hear the spill we all get from the postal authorities every time we mail a package larger than a letter. I just want to ask them how STUPID do you think criminals really are? "Is there anything liquid, perishable or potentially hazardous in the package?" I have heard this so many times it is ridiculous! Wonder what they would do if someone said YES?

From outside the Euro Union I got an Argentinian who mailed me a pound of paper with an insured document courier . Of course the documents were illustrated.
From the US I got a box with watch parts and the guy used like 10 foot of industrial tape .
I know Terry likes hobby supplies.

Inside the euro zone I got a box from Italy with a telephone book in it to make weight . Last week I got a box from germany marked this way up and breakable so I gave it to my wife thinking it was a swarovski animal . But it was a shining knight on a full sovereing horse . The most ridiculous I got was from Germany too .
Four envelopes one into an other and then smaller paper bags  one in another and finally two coins in the SAME plastic zipper bag able to rub each other .

Our postal office employees are so bored they do not care even about the weirdest packages. Two years ago I made a carboard box myself to fit a two feet wooden crucifix with copper christ on it . The box was not even square and the documents said old crucifix . It arrived without problems in the US seemingly nobody thought it odd somebody paying 35 euro to ship a 15 euro crucifix

Terry if you said YES they would take the telephone book and read you the IATA regulations.

WHEN SHIPPING THINGS I ALWAYS GET THAT STUPID QUESTION AS TO WHETHER THE CONTENTS ARE DANGEROUS---I TOLD ONE CLERK THAT I SORT OF KNOW THAT IT HAD BEEN FEED AND DID NOT NEED FEEDING FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS--I GOT THE STRANGEST LOOK UNTIL SHE REALIZED I WAS FOOLING----JUST TESTING HER SENSE OF HUMOR---OF COURSE IT IS BETTER IN THE MORNING WHEN THE CLERKS ARE REFRESHED----OTHER WISE YOU MIGHT MEET AN AWFULLY LOT OF PEOPLE YOU WON'T LIKE

I am sure, some where along the line, packages are scanned, xrayed and sniffed, so to speak so why waste postal employees time asking customers ridiculous questions. Why don't they just ask if we are terrorists and get it over with. Crap like this does indeed tell me the bad guys are winning in many ways!

Hang in there! '09 was pretty rough for me, but things have been getting better the last month or 2.
