I fixed everything that needed fixing this last weekend. We did have a few hours of questionable online errors during this repair/update. I did finish a few things that were left to clean up tonight (many may have seen my new maintenance security error sign on the news header dipicting my current back door entry) nothing to fix just cleaning up. All is well at castle KOTCT.

Now, as for the two members that hd issues with logging in. If by chance you had logged in during the weekend work, you could have corrupted the cookie that allows you to enter the site.

If ANYONE ever gets an unusual error screen saying that they cannot get connected. First try refreshing your screen. We are NOT on a dedicated server and depending on how active it may be, you could possibly get a white screen connection error.

If this does not work then clear all of your browsing history. This is done from the tools menu and you need to delete everything EXCEPT your form data and passwords. Any previously opened pages will re-appear if you don't and this includes any error screens from a bad login attempt.

Then click the TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - PRIVACY then click the ADVANCED tab. Here is where you need to activate the function to allow your browser to accept session cookies. These little buggers are what the forum program sends you as a pass key to log on. If you don't have one, you don't get to even see the sites home page.

Do all of this and then re-attempt to log on. If this doesn't work then you likely have a firewall issue.

I hope this helps...

I would probably end up shooting myself in the foot.

But, something to ponder... There is software that would allow me to log into members computers to do the things I continue to try and teach everyone. Each time I would have to get a live approval from the member and they would sit and watch me do their maintenance in real time. I cannot begin to tell you all of the things that could be done if I had the ability to sit at the driver seat of each of your computers. The software is not really that expensive (it would work out to be around $26.00 per ACTIVE member and even less the more who would want to participate) considering Geek Squad is $50.00 an hour regardless of how small the task.

Give it some thought and let me know if my services are needed enough to justify the purchase.

All for now,

TKO

A BIG thanks to TKO for keeping everything in the Castle ship shape.

The suggestion of his re doing routine maintenance remotely for members is an excellent one if you aren't real cluey about PC's.  When I worked for the Gov't, their contracted IT technicians had this function & it was great!

I don't need the service as I have a live-at-home PC Geek (my Son) who can usually get me back from limbo in pretty quick time. If I didn't have him here, I would certainly be prepared to ante up $26.00, as that's chicken feed these days.  ::)  ;D  ;)

I used realVNC it is a free program that gives you total control over another computer if you have the right passwords
I had two computers for a time but since the second had no screen attached and was rebooted daily , it did not work out since realvnc only starts when the other computer is up and running and cannot detect problems before that

Where I am going I ain't certain
Where I am going I don't know
All I know is that I'am on my way

That's ME! And I'd certainly be prepared to pay the $26! Especially after the recent problems in trying to get back into the Castle.

I had realVNC and it really works if the other computer is up and running
You controll in realtime the other computer ( and it was free )
I finally bought a license and it is only the controlling computer that had to pay (not the controlled one)
