Canada has created a major Olympic error mule!

For those of you who may be interested Canada has created a major Olympic error mule that was just recently released and still very affordable. The final 25 cent piece commemorating the 2010 Olympics "Alpine Skiing" was accidently struck with a 2008 die instead of the 2007. The coins were used in a "souviner" packet and are now just hitting Ebay. The Canadian Mint is calling the error a small number which I assume they will announce totals later? The prices are running from $20 + to over $200 on Ebay and I feel $23 for a mule is well within range for this type of error and I don't see prices staying there very long. I have seen mule jump in prices overnight so I would get it before it gets to hot.

That's two mules out of the first five Olympic quarters.  It's a shame these aren't happening in the ones released for circulation.  I have easy access to as many of them as my wallet can handle.

I went ahead and bought 3 of them while the getting was good. I see most with the "buy it now"  option are going pretty quick on Ebay, especially if they are less than $30. I feel its is a pretty safe investment at that price and time will be my friend on these. I would like any information on totals struck if it becomes available?

The 3 mules arrived today in the special holders. I feel it is very important that I make note or place a sticker or some sort of info on them so my family or a collector down the road will actually know what they are holding and why they are special. There is absolutely nothing on the packaging to give away the huge error inside. Guess I will set on these for a while and see if any thing comes of it.

One ebay seller had the mintage listed as 30,000 for the Alpine skiing 'mule'. Would that be the total number of the Alpine skiing coins issued in this series?

Is anyone aware of the number of SE sets issued that contain the wheelchair curling mule?

I read somewhere that the 2008/Alpine Skiing Mule was estimated at 40,000 so that figure of 30,000 may not be that far off.  I'm not sure how many of the other mule got out into the wild, but I would presume it was less, since it was only found in the complete sets.

If price is any indication there were not many wheelchair curling mules that got out as they are WAY out of my budget for such a coin now! And, if there are 40,000 of these skiing mules I had just as well put mine up for sale now as that number of strikes released will prevent them from ever going upward. Just my humble opinion as that is the way I see it now.

Some sellers are now selling by the box (25). Does anyone know what the original issue price of these coins were?

You are right about the price of the 'mule sets' - think I'll have to give that one a miss as well. (especially when shipping costs have been quoted as C$45)

Seems to me, if memory serves me correct, the coin was selling at PetroCanada in the $8 to $9 range? Of course I am not certain but that is what I was told by a Canadian dealer of the coins. It appears the wheelchair curling is out of sight and hard to locate and theSkiing mule is available by the herd. Going to let a couple of mine go for the $25 each I paid for them. Keep one as a novelty as I don't see them doing much in my lifetime.

Mmmm - my decision to pass on this mule set (wheel chair curling mule) didn't last long - I went ahead and purchased one from ebay. OUCH!

A single olympic wheelchair curling mule just went for almost $650 on ebay today. That's more than double the price that the sets were going for. Am I missing something with this one? I presume it would have been taken out of a set.

It they were only released in sets then it must have been taken out? I think the price has reached a point where it would more than concern me for a modern day error. Collectors, and people in general, tend to forget the hype and whats "hot" as there is always something new coming down the road and they do so usually in a matter of months. Does anyone have any idea how many of the wheelchair mules got out of the mint yet?
