I was a Rockies season ticket holder for 16 years before giving them up this season.

I'm not too disappointed however.  I saw all the playoff games in Colorado in 2007, and now realize I'm better off sitting in front of the TV to watch the games.  In other words, "Been there, done that."  Now, I'll catch the action from the comfort of my office whilst downing beverage from my KOTCT mug.

I know what you mean. Beverages are outrageously priced at the ball park anyway. But as someone who only gets to go to games occasionally it is well worth it for me, if for the atmosphere if nothing else.

Adam, I understand.

I watched Mantle and Maris in both 1961 and 1962, in Kansas City.  Record attendance every game.  And, for one reason -  well actually two -- No. 7 and No. 9.  Batting practice alone was worth the price of admission.  I'd have to look in my scrapbook, but I think our box seats, four rows back from home plate, were $3.50.  The atmosphere in that ballpark was electric.  I wrote sports for 40 years, but still can't put it in words.  Ball after ball over the fence while the crowd roared.  And that was just batting practice.  Yep, that was an experience you couldn't get on TV.

you are right about the ambiance--the smells---the sights---remembering who played where and when--but they tore my old park down and i haven't warmed up to the new park and the higher prices--i'll come around eventually but my chair---KOTCT mug and some chips with homemade salsa do it for me---plus the walk to the bathroom isn't as far and i can't always make it to the 7th inning--

Ouch! That one hurt - can remember where I was when "Those Were the Days" was first released - and it's scary to think that was over 40 years ago!

Well it was a bit before my time, but one of my favourite songs.  Mary Hopkin is a fantastic singer, and kept her career in the music industry very short and sweet.  I found a CD of her first album, they made a few in the UK a few years ago but they are HARD to find.

Without looking up the answers, I only know one.  Wally Pipp was replaced by Lou.  Memory tells me that Lou had a lifetime batting average of .340.

The easy answer to the stadium question would be Yankee Stadium.  But that's not likely correct.  The Yankees were probably on the road, and I have no answer for that question.

Hit .340, and without steroids.  My, my.

Re: On this day in history......
October 23, 2009, 02:20:03 PM
1983= Beirut Lebanon, at daybreak on Sunday morning 23 October, a yellow five-ton Mercedes stake-bed truck roared into the parking lot at high speed. and then crashed though a barbed-wire barrier. The truck then moved past two sentry post, went though a gate in an iron fence, hurdled over an obstacle made of sewer pipe. plowed though a sandbag barrier, crashed though a four foot-wide door into the lobby of a 4 story building, whereupon the cargo, estimated to be the equivalent of six tons on TNT detonated.
Two hundred and thirty-nine occupants of the building were killed immediately, three were U.S.Army, eighteen were U.S. Navy and 218 were U.S. Marines More than a hundred were wounded. of these three later die.

Nov. 22 1975 USS Kennedy collided with the USS Belknap. How's that for a bizarre date coincidence?

Destroyers are nicknamed "cans" for tin cans. Although the Belknap was a cruiser the Kennedy became known as the "can opener."

We steamed with the Can Opener in the med in 1979. The Captain left night orders to be awoken if the Kennedy came within 5,000 yards of us.

Lucky us. We had to refuel from it once.

Old Dan you have no idea how much I would like to meet them in person. Just to say hello in the land they bless and all the beauty that surrounds you folks out there! Next time you see them give them a big hello from a friend in Indiana. Old Bill looks like one who knows his way around? Simply outstanding creatures when they reach adulthood and they are one of the few animals that REALLY care for one another. Hollywood just doesn't tell the whole truth when they make westerns do they?

RARELY DOES HOLLYWOOD GET IT STRAIGHT---IT WAS YEARS BEFORE REAL INDIANS PLAYED INDIANS IN THE MOVIES AND NOT DRESSED UP ITALIANS--DANCES WITH WOLVES MADE A GOOD TRY AT PRESENTING THE NATIVE AMERICAN CORRECTLY AND WHILE JOHN WAYNE FILMED IN SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PARTS OF OUR WEST--THE STORY TENDED TO BE A LITTLE BIAS...

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY THE WRIGHT BROTHERS FROM OHIO FLEW THE FIRST MOTOR DRIVEN AIRPLANE AT KITTY HAWK, NORTH CAROLINA---THEIR FIRST FLIGHT LASTED A LITTLE OVER 12 SECONDS AND COVERED ABOUT 60 FEET I BELIEVE

A FEW YEARS LATER-ORVILLE WRIGHT WAS DEMONSTRATING THE VALUE OF AN AIRPLANE WITH A YOUNG ARMY OFFICER NAMED SELFRIDGE---THE PLANE WENT INTO A DIVE--ORVILLE GOT A CONCUSSION---SELFRIDGE WAS KILLED---YEARS LATER SELFRIDGE AIR FORCE BASE NEAR PORT HURON ,MICHIGAN WAS NAMED FOR THIS YOUNG OFFICER.

NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY----TEMPLAR
