2009 Proof Sets

I just received two 2009 proof sets.

They aren't mine for long, in that I bought them for gifts.

They are very nice, and as I understand it, include more coins than any proof set in 60 years.

I would guess that the silver proof sets, when released later in the summer, could prove to be a good investment.  Anyone have ideas on that subject?

Gary, I would think it would be the largest ever. I can't think of any time in the history of the U.S. when we had more coins at one time than we do now.

Proof sets are notorious for losing value over time. Even the high priced statehood quarter sets from 1999 and 2001 are now working their way downward. Collectors and non-collectors alike tend to look forward and soon forget the past. I do think the silver sets are a good investment but I am notorious for busting them open as single proofs tend to sell very well. I keep what I want and usually get my money back by selling off those I don't need. I do like the silver! None the less it all boils down to individual collecting habits and coins desired. Over the years our tastes tend to change and coin collecting is no different. As long as we are enjoying the hunt and the final acquisitions the only thing that really matters is pleasing yourself!!! Just collect what you like and have some fun while doing it!
