Bad day to play
June 01, 2009, 01:47:30 PM
This evening around 6:30 we went to a place we call the Quarter school for obvious reasons. Normally there are a couple of families playing in the Spark. For the most part this does not bother us. Though if there are a crowd of people we go elsewhere. This progressed quite well for a short time I began to get a small following of kids. All polite asking the usual questions.

What are you doing?
Why?
Can I help?

As time progressed my entourage grew.. Then a voice from the back said "hey that's my quarter I lost that". I held up the nickel I had just dug and said its a nickel not a quarter.
"Give me my nickel"
You said you lost a quarter
"That's my nickel give it to me or I will call my Mom"
Sorry but you said you lost a quarter and this is a Nickel
"Its not my fault you are poor give me my Nickel"
At this point I abandoned the jungle gym and headed over the swing set that was about 50 yards away.
A few minutes later the same voice
"I am calling my Mom"
Please do
"Give me my Quarter"
where did you loose your quarter?
"here"
At this point she filled in the hole I was digging in the mulch and tried to push me over.
Not going to happen I'm a big guy.
I left the area and abandoned the hunt for the day.
My wife says I should have called the police.
Yeah right.
Hello police how may I help you?
"I am being assaulted"
Who is assaulting you?
"A colored female juvenile"
you mean a Kid?
"Yes"
How old are you sir?
"43"

See my dilemma? I think I did the right thing just leaving even if it meant cutting short our fun time. Just under three years my wife and I have been detecting and this is the first instance of trouble.
I now understand why the guy that showed us how to use our Aces told us not to detect with people around...

You did the right thing Richard. But I'd probably tell the little dweeb to get lost. I love kids, but there are some kids out there that just can get on your nerves. So you did the right thing by just walking away. Good idea to hunt with no one around!  :) P.S: I got the Dora hair clip today you sent. My wife opened the envelope in front of our granddaughter, and she loved it! She refuses to take it out of her hair! Thanks so much Richard. You made one little girl very happy!  :)

Don't you just love people like that?  What is really really scary is they pro-create soon and make more of their ilk.  The garden variety you have described above tends to pro-create by 13-14 or so.

BTW, you didn't happen to share which one of those nickels is her quarter that she lost and is going to yelp to her mommy about.

Watch it, I have four middle schoolers!  And yes, their brains seem to have evaporated occasionally. ;D

Of my 35 years teaching, 33 were with middle schoolers.  It took me about two years to figure them out (more or less), and then the sailing was pretty smooth

I distinctly remember losing ALL my change in a school yard the last time I was in Texas. If I remember correctly I was attempting to set a world record photographing schools and school yards. Lost my darn change, plus my jewelry and all of my crews money and jewelry in every school yard we photographed. It is great that I FINALLY found someone with the time and effort to locate all my lost goodies. Thank you so much Nohope for taking the time to RETURN my lost coins to me!!! ;D  Don't make me call my MOM!!!

I presently own four middle schoolers, and no, I canna figure them out yet.  They all have moments where you can love them, but otherwise until they are early into adulthood, they should be avoided.

Owning four middle schoolers is kind of like owning a leased car. Just try and give it back.  ;D

You cut short your fun time because of an irritating kid and a nickle, i would have got rid of both by giving the nickle to the kid  :) and continued having fun  :)

I think you did the right thing   :)
