Metal detecting finds on road trip
March 12, 2009, 02:58:26 PM
Finds on my road trip so far.
Only had a few hours to look around to date. Am in California for the next 4 days with nothing to do but check out the parks and schools.

Interesting that you found a dollar bill, and what looks like a .22 shell too.

Nice finds, Halves are especially good finds, and the dollar bill, can you set your machine to ping when those are around ;D

OTOH thanks for ridding the lands of those farking pulltabs from the 1970's.

BTW I went out with my machine again, have some decent coin hits, but haven't excavated them yet, the ground is still very soupy from the snow melt, and this morning it is back to permafrost again.

I have been reading your posts about your finds for a time now and i am planning on purchasing a metal detector this summer. Unfortunately i didnt find it anywhere in Egypt except at radioshack.

Do you think any of these 3 detectors is worth buying, even as a start?

make a cheap metel detector--you need a mop handle--duct tape--and a powerful magnet---put them together and pass the magnet over the sand and if the item is not too deep and the magnet very strong--it should work very nicely---even in shallow water!---what have you got to loose???oh--in case of lightening--drop detector/or give it to your buddy!--your servant--the templar

BTW I went out today on one of the ping spots, dug and found a 1992 quarter about 3" down.  First find since last fall, but my yard is still soppy from the snowmelt.  I may check some parks or something this weekend.

The bill was on the surface but I did say beep and passed the detector over the top before picking it up. Does that still count?

Dog gone it counts. Anything you find while detecting counts. A yr ago I was detecting an area where a building was torn down. There, half buried in the ground run over by a dozer was a $5 bill......IT COUNTS.

I have found $20s blowing around on the ground in parking lots a couple of times in the last few years.  Usually my best finds are $1 bills.

Last year in a Target store I found a wad of $1's on the ground and presumed they belonged to the approximately 13 year old girl standing a few feet away.  I asked her if they were hers, and her response was "Oh" as she swiped them out of my hand.  No thanks, no go to hell, no nothing.  And you wonder why you bother.

Talking to a strange 13 year old you could have been picked up as a pedophile
Next time think about that and leave the money for somebody else to find if it is not enough to keep  :-[

Oh and your changing handles in that unpronouncable language is confusing Scottish
