Check out this South Dakotan late 19th Century Scotch/Irish (Celtic Style) Church, it's AMAZING and made from local rock.  The structure is located a few miles outside of Firesteel South Dakota!!!  The town has quite an appropriate name IMHO considering all the iron ore from around there, but the population is only around 40-50 people...

Ben, It sure looks good to me. I was thinking of visiting that church with my metal detector.....it's only around 380 miles from me. BUt, it's on an Indian reservation and that's a no-no.

Some public areas are okay, just ask.  I've metal detected around several rural Churches; the steps and parking lots -- certainly not the grave yards though.  Seriously though, I believe I'd shoot anyone who dug up the Shrade Walden pocket knife I put near the headstone of my dad's grave...

Yeah, metal detecting grave yards is just wrong. The church yards are fine if you have permission though. I know some old ones around here, but I never have looked into trying to get permission yet.
