Internet links

None of the internet links I posted work and I tried other peoples old links and they do not work anymore either

Is this a computer problem on my side ? or are the internet links deactivated ?
Example of a link that does not activate

Where I am going I ain't certain

I didn't have an opportunity to tell everyone this before so I'm going to tell you now...

The software authors issued a security update to fend off worm viruses and temporarily deactivating the [URL] function was unfortunately the main Bulletin Board Code that needed this de-activation. So, the authors said that once code was written disallowing these viruses from using the BBC, then and only then will they issue a permanent patch to reactivate.

Now, I have the ability to override their update but, we would be sitting ducks if an attack occurred.

So, is this something everyone wants me to do, or can we wait for the Guru's to pound out some security code? The choice is up to all the members. I can change the function in less than a minute. I can rebuild the entire site database in about two days. The only thing is all data would be lost. Posts, layout, member profiles - the whole works. It would truley be at ground zero for the site.

Let me know what you decide.

I don't understand what needs to happen, but I would go for whatever protects the forum, AND saves you 2 days work having to rebuild the database.

I agree. Leave it as it is.
It's no big hardship to copy and paste the URL.

In case anyone is not familiar with this function,
you can highlight the URL and press Ctrl and C to copy,
then open up a new browser and press Ctrl and V to paste.

Bluntly put we have discovered a huge amount of Trojan Horses and viruses that are being transmitted through these links. While I am not a computer genius by any sense of the word those who are are warning, not just us, but all forums around the world. These geeks bent on destroying our forums, meeting places, chat rooms and our personal computers just because they can are constantly looking for new ways to get inside undetected. Rather than take a chance, even if it is an ole reliable link we have all used at one time or another its much safer to wait until someone comes up with an answer, or as TKO described it, a code or patch to protect us from bringing home a dragon we did not want to collect. Sorry for the inconvience.

Of coarse, leave it as it is.
I had several viruses attacks through the past years, regarding my PC or Laptop. Some i survived with just a simple McAfee scan, but twice i had to format the hard disc and i nearly lost some important documents that i luckly had backup to.  :'(
All this regardless of the headache of setting up windows and all softwares, drivers and apllications. >:(

Leave it untill we are safe, this is my opinion. :) and thank you TKO for protecting our beloved castle. ;)

In case anyone is not familiar with this function,
you can highlight the URL and press Ctrl and C to copy,
then open up a new browser and press Ctrl and P to paste.

Regarding my IBM, its;
Ctrl and C to copy.
Ctrl and V to paste.
Or simply press right click after you highlight the URL and select either copy or paste.

Eg, I wished it would be as simple as running a virus program. But for us it involves SQL servers located in Atlanta and unfortunately we only have limited access to them.

Of course you are correct Amr. My typographical error.
It should be Ctrl V. I have made the change.

Thus, it'll be wise not to take any risks. Leave it as it is.

Well I am one ahead on most of you
These days all the trouble I got is updates of antivirus programs fighting each other and crashing my computer
AVG antispyware I paid for two years and they updated to antispy plus antivirus and no free choice so I had to uninstall a 2 year service paid for
because its shield would never cohabit with Norton shield
Adaware updated and installed a shield and the shield crashed me five day in a row before I found out its shield was not compatible with whatever I got . Also it is giving me false positives ( that is viruses that are only a figment of its imagination lol )
So now I got a hardwired firewall and full Norton internet portection with shield and firewall paid for . And full spybot search and destroy with teatimer shield protecting my boot section particularly and huristic virus and troyan protection . Adaware is on line but background protection since I took the shield out . And once a week I run hijackthis ( the ultimate running process detector )
Daily I make a Norton Ghost copy of my full computer and incrementals to an outside drive . To reformat and to reinstall my computer would take 3 hours of waiting for the 60 giga writing to be over with . I also have monthly back ups to a decoupled outside drive in case everything is fried by lightening and I have all my key data on a 8 giga usb stick I carry around .

Where I am going I ain't certain
Where I am going I don't know
All I know is that I'am on my way

Half of the time I get a flemish text that says that the requested page cannot be displaid suggesting connection errors
( it is not a 404 )
A quarter of the time i get an overview page without any formatting
And most annoying like just now I get this rediculous message I timed out whilst I only used 2 minutes typing this with ten fingers I got the ridiculous timed out message
Something is wrong somewhere
