OldDan, here comes another one.  Stay warm and make sure you've got enough wood for the fire/stove.

In living up here north of the Mason-Dixon for 11+ years now, this has been the coldest year since we have lived here.  We had a cool summer and fall.  We have had a cold end of fall, and tonnes of snow.  Right now we have about 13" laying out in the yard.  And more coming this week.

That we always stay so dry (in our area) is strange for Colorado.

Currently it's cold, the wind is howling, and it's overcast.

Whether there will be any snow remains to be seen.

As a kid growing up in this area, there always was a lot of snow in the wintertime.  Must be either "Global Warming" or a big change in the weather cycle.

It is NOT global warming!!! It is the mere fact YOU, OLD DAN and TOPHER (I just found out) are all in cahoots (southern for conspiracy) to send all the COLD AIR, COLD WIND, FREEZING RAIN, SLEET, HAIL and SNOW to the midwest!!! :o Took a while to figure out who all the co-conspirators were but we are pretty darn sure of it now!!!  After all there is only so much snow and cold to go around and now we have to figure out how to make darn sure you ALL get your fair share! Trouble is our WIND does not want to cooperate and the jet stream continues to run the WRONG direction. Don't worry, we midwesterners will figure something out!!! ;D

I can still see the grass.  :D

Supposed to get up to 7C on Monday, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad, as it's supposed to go back down below 0C by Wednesday.

As long as the weather stays relatively good through Christmas, I'm happy, as we're heading to my parents' place in southern PA for Christmas.  Once I get back in January, it can snow all it wants.  In the meantime, I'll keep working on that voodoo doll and keep sending the snow and cold down Terry's way.  :D

(Note to Terry, Ben's in on the fun, too.  He's our advance scout!   LOL)

OldDan et al, the high today so-far is -9 ºF  with wind-chill of -40 ºF.  Our dogs and (tame cats) are all in the house right now cause Jen is cooking, LOL...

Seriously, this is a day I'm glad to be w/o a herd.  I can remember them all being pushed by the wind, snow, and cold into the corner of the pasture and they'd mill about pushing on the fence until the wind would change.  That's when I'd bust some bails of hay back up by the barn and they'd come running. :)

Take Care

Yeah, and I can guarantee all of you there is a plan in effect right now to move all that mess to the midwest!!! Had a high today of near 50 degrees but the wind is bringing in rain, which will turn to freezing rain and then snow. Boy am I looking forward to that! ;D Guess I will get out some coins and enjoy my time inside?

3 minutes till midnight here.

Not as bad as the other reports.

However there is some snow on the ground, and the temperature is 7 Degrees F.

Wind makes it especially cold.

We turned our three cats into "outside cats" this summer, and I sure hope they do okay.

A very wet 7C (44F) up here in the Great White North.  We had snow back in October, but nothing has stayed for more than a few days.  I've only had to get the shovel out once so far.

We got some ice here in Missouri. My road is pretty slippery, but the main roads and all the streets in town have been cleared. Seems cold as hell, but I guess its better than up there in the high plains ;D

Two whole inches of snow here.

But, when the clouds go away, it's going to get cold!!

Now, no such thing as a stupid question.  Right?

Here goes.  Until recently we had a dog.  On very cold nights, I would bring her inside.  The dog is now gone, but I have another pet situation.

Maybe this would be one for Kitty to answer?!

We had three house cats.  Last summer they became outdoor cats.  It has worked out fine.  They stay near the house, know where their feed bowl is, and like to be petted.  Well, two of the three like human contact.

Anyway, here's what I would appreciate an answer to.  Normally, our low temperatures during the winter can range from 0 degrees F down to -10F.  Is there any danger to the cats?  They have plenty of places to get out of the wind -- our carport, our deck, and a storage area under our steps leading to the deck.

So, anyone with outdoor cat experience, I would appreciate opinions.

Are the cats safe outside when it gets really cold?

Thanks.

 :) :) :) :)

Heck! Today the temp. got up to -0F before dropping back down.
Almost bathing suit weather.

Olddan.  -0F is that a lot colder than 0F? LOL

Chuckle, speaking of outhouses in the late 1960s my uncle dropped a cigarette into the old-one down near our deer hunting camp-house at the farm in Leon County, Texas, somehow it caught fire and burned the whole damn thing down.  Momma got really worried and drove back up to the house where she subsequently called the local volunteer fire department (VFD); after the roof-went up like an atomic bomb...

She was really scared it would spread to the nearby camp-house and catch the woods on fire since everyone was just standing around with their mouths open in amazement, myself included...  By the time the VFD got there (over an hour) it was gone but the fire-in-the-hole continued to excite those who witnessed the initial conflagration with bright colorful fare-ups which shot flames several (10'-20') feet into the sky for a few hours after the initial blaze.  It was quite a bid deal...

We never rebuilt it, and the pit/hole is just about all filled in now, but there are wild cherry tomatoes and black-berries which grow like crazy there.  We won't eat them, but our new deer-hunters who lease to hunt pick and seem to enjoy them... ;)

Take Care
Ben

Got our share north of the border last night.  About 6 inches, and they're calling for up to a foot on Friday.  Looks like it's going to be a LOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG commute.

The big one is coming!  They're calling for 20cm tomorrow, and a total of 50-60cm by Sunday.  As long as it clears up for the 24th, I don't really care what happens before or after.

Old Dan did NOT show his sled he use with the LADIES. Of course, it is pulled by buffalo, due to the weight!!! ;D

I am old enough to know what those old outhouses were like in the winter. You didn't waste no time reading in the winter!!! :o

Update.  The snow is a little late, so no shoveling needed this morning, but between the time I woke up, and the time I got out of the shower, we already had 2 inches where I live (west side of Toronto).  By the time I got to work, I outran the front of the storm, as there was hardly any here (east side of Toronto).  Now, less than a half hour after getting to work, I can't see the office buildings across the parking lot due to the whiteout, and the updated weather report is calling for 30cm today, and at least that much more over the rest of the weekend.  Looks like I'm going to be going home early as the nasty part of the storm is due to hit around 3pm.

So far we have another 8" on the ground in addition to the 12" that was already there, and another 2-4" tomorrow night.  This bites.  I have to fly out to JFK in the morning to meet a group coming in from Ukraine, and then bring them back.  Could be an interesting travel day - AGAIN! :-[

You all just keep talking about the bad weather. It's all left here. The middle of Dec. and they think it might get up to 70 today. I didn't even run any heat last night at my house. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. It snowed in Lexington and we are runing around in t-shirts. My dad thinks spring has come, and wants to plow the garden.  ;D

I shoveled about a foot of snow so I could park in the driveway.  It took over 2 hours to get home.  Not the worst commute I've had, but certainly a lot longer than I wanted it to be.  Sunday's storm is downgraded to 5-10cm now, and more on Tuesday/Wednesday, but they aren't saying how much for that one.
