South Dakota Blizzard
November 06, 2008, 01:57:33 AM
For my friends in the sunny and warm climes, this is a moderate/average South Dakota November blizzard.  There might be a bit more moisture in these (I wouldn't call them flakes) pellets of snow than usual and it is much needed for sure.  Power came back on just now, but I don't know how long it will last.  Been using the old fireplace and I really forgot how much heat that thing throws out when the damper is misadjusted, LOL...  Hey OldDan, are you guys getting any of this?

Take Care
Ben

Will come my way Sat/Sun or so.  We are supposed to get more rain than snow, but the snow will come on the late end and ice up.  BTW today it is 70' here.

BTW welcome to the board, you know me under another guise from that place we both used to haunt.

Thank you, I'm beginning to recognize who you may be.  ;)  God, I love this weather.  A good blow gets the blood going and that along with a warming shot of 'ahem, something else' gets me outdoors and right at it -- chopping wood for the fire, breaking ice so the animals can drink, and feeding them.  BTW, we've made National Headlines with the weather...  Here are some more pics.

And to think, I almost went to grad school in South Dakota!

Don't send this stuff my way.  We already had our first snowstorm of the year a couple of weeks ago.  Thankfully it's been up to 15-20C degrees this week.  (that's 59-68F for you non-metric types).  I'm hoping the snowplows do a better job this year than they did last year!  (And I'm making sure my USB drives are on a keyring this winter!  I still haven't plugged in the one that I found at the bottom of the snowpile!)

It means Ukrainian Four.  It is an inside thing.  More fitting for what I am really involved with these days.

The last picture, featuring my lovely (and angry- LOL) wife posing in front of our immediate nemesis wearing some of my boots.  This job/drift I've decided to attack tomorrow after things blow-over as they say.  BTW, as you can see she's pretty tall 5'10" and IMHO not bad looking. ;)  The drift goes about 200 yds/190 meters beyond where she's standing and is about 6' to 8' feet in depth.  The Black Hills can be seen in the background...  The dog is our Champion Cairn Terrier which barks loudest when we're all asleep keeping an eye on things...  :-\ :-\ :-\

If I have a heart attack please know that each of you are my friends... :)

I think we've got quite a while before we see anything close to that here in north central Missouri :)

You can keep all the snow, Ben. We get our share here in Michigan sooner or later. Anyway, in a few weeks we'll be down in sunny Florida for a few days- hahaha!  :)

We don't see snow in Perth, ever.
It is very mild here. I wear shorts all year round.

I would like to see snow again though. It's been 40 years since I saw it, when I use to live in England.

Sir Bonedigger:

Beautiful photos.  I love those places.   Am I be able to breath??    Whether my  Blood will clot?
I had a mild heart attack, during 1994.

Here in India, too, there are places like that.   But can't afford to visit them as I am the Eldest in the family.

More pictures welcome.

Sincerely
George

It is by giving others, we actually receive from G

Sir George et al,

Thank you all for the comments,  :) but as usual with the snow comes the responsibility of cleaning it up and I've been at it since 4:30 am. On top of it all, a shear pin on my snow-plow broke off an I bent the frame a little (alot actually) and the blade rolled under the front fender of the jeep and cut my the tire. After backing up, it took me about two hours to remove the whole setup, heat the bent pieces (angle iron) and bend them back so the plow won't sit crooked and work properly. Now, I've got to fix a flat...

You'd probably be laughing if you saw it happen, and I'm even chuckling now -- but at the time, it was a pretty TENSE and VOLATILE moment.

Kindest Regards All
Ben

I saw snow flurries today.  Canna wait for the snow to come.  I actually like the stuff.  Snow and cold keep the wussies living somewhere else.

If I buy the house I am looking at I may have to get a tractor to plow the driveway, it is about 100 metres long.  I don't think the big blower would do that.

We are semiarid, so don't have much snow.  For one thing, we always seem to be south of the jetstream.

Although we get little snow, it's only a 30 mile drive to 10,000 foot Grand Mesa, and there's already three feet of snow there.

Weather, of course, goes in cycles.  When I was young, and living in the same area as I do now, we had much more snow.

The older you get, the less "magical" snow seems, especially if you're out in it, and cold.

Wish I could afford to be in Florida during the winter.

 :) :) :) :)

We got alot more snow around here when I was a kid too, and that wasn't too long ago. My parents have the right idea. They're on a plane back from Jamaica right about now... I hope they bring some coins ;D
