Where would you go???
August 04, 2008, 11:24:54 AM
Some lucky person has used my credit card to purchase over $2000 worth of flights.
Where would you go if you had $2000 worth of flights to spend???

Me first.. I would go to some where it is warm and sunny , say fiji. That would put a smile on my face.

They wont be smiling when they get caught. Hopefully dumb enough to use thier own ID to get on flight.

Sorry to hear...my guess those flights will originate in a country where outgoing traffic is less carefully watched--if such a place exists?

Where would I go with $2K in flights?  I've been to Hawaii numerous times, so it would be further. Aus/NZ would top the list--I'm a big animal lover, and exploring the outback/GBR would be a great getaway.  ;D

NSW would be my primary target!  The only problem would be getting me to leave once I got there. :D  Although I'm sure the Australian government would kick me out at the end of my six months. :'(

Here's hoping to that mangy scoundrel being caught quickly!  Hopefully they aren't even thinking about charging you for the $2000?  That's theft, pure and simple.

Do add this coin to my collection?

I have 11 years experience in law enforcement, and believe me, most bad guys (and girls too!) are "dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks". Very seldom did we ever come across anyone who had committed a crime that had put much thought into it beforehand. Most of them slip up sooner or later. He or she will get caught eventually! Just hope you can get everything straightened out! Where would I like to go? Maybe somewhere in the South Pacific, like French Polynesia, Cook Islands...etc. ;)

The Na Poli Coast on Kauai Island, Hawaii.  The most beautiful place I have ever seen.  We took a helicopter trip over the green mountains with their beautiful waterfalls, and it was a sight I'll always remember.

A few years ago I had a phone call from VISA asking if I had ordered $1500 worth of musical instruments to be delivered in Brooklyn.  Luckily, I didn't have to pay, and to this day I am not sure how they (the crooks) got ahold of my credit card number.

 :) :) :) :)

I once had an item on my bill in Russian Roubles, which obviously wasn't mine! I called the card company and they told me that hackers have programs which randomly generate card #s, which they run through a gateway service to confirm validity. They suspected this was the source of my charge, and I had to change my CC#, which was a rather big hassle.  >:(

I hope you don't have any financial problems because of this crime tiddyathome.
KurtS, you are right. Programs to randomly generate credit card numders have been around as long as the internet has. Maybe longer.

I've always wanted to travel to Europe. So I'll say Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Ireland.

Hey Mate, sorry to hear that :( Hope all goes OK for you.  Its so easy for these unmentionables to get hold of our details (I recently had to chastise my Daughter for throwing her bank statement in the rubbish).  I shredded it for her.

For me Nashville, and Southern Ireland (to be Sure)

Thanks everyone. I am lucky that the bank can see it for the fraud it is.
I am also lucky that the flights where all booked with an Aussie company, so ID should catch these scum bags.
The biggest pain in the bum was I wax about to pay for some coins from the US. I have spoken to them and they will hold the coins for me until I set up a different paypal option. I cant use the card any more which was the only option I use to have.

I love hearing of all the place you would like to visit. Its good to dream ;D

It's good that you don't have to pay for this. I had a similar problem a few years ago. My bank was pretty good though, they rang me as soon as the attempted transaction took place and asked if it was me doing it. Apparently someone was trying to buy $1000 worth of books over the net. They immediately cancelled the car and issued a new one.

Now where would I like to go. $2000 may not be enough, for a one way ticket around the world, collecting coins from as many countries as I can and visiting other members of KOTCT. Might have to settle for Fiji again, that was really relaxing.

I do not own a Credit Card.   Earlier, I had bitter experience and they over charge on ALL the purchases.   It is a big loss.
When I have money, I will pay and buy.   No credit at all.
If I get a chance, surely I would like to see the United States of America

I am travelling to Ukraine, Moldova and probably Austria in two months, I wish $2000 would cover our flights. :o  Then we might be going back to Ukraine in December, and then again next Spring.  Perhaps I should take up a credit card collection.

Sir George, you'd be welcome to come to my place for a stay. I live in a state in the upper central part of the U S boardering Canada. Heck, we'll visit the Canadian Royal mint in Winnipeg (only 300 miles -- 480km), boat down (or up) the mighty Mississippi River just 1 mile -- (1.6km) --near where I live, metal detect for old U S coins, and maybe even visit Chicago to take in a few Cub games (Baseball). Get out of that heat......come in our winter. Oh, a few nights it might get down to -30 F (-35 C), but it'll do you good to learn how to put anti-freeze in my SUV, build snowmen, and even go ice fishing. Oh yes, you have your dams and flowing water, but in the winter we actually can walk on water. Try it, you'll like it. Goose

Thanks for your kind invitation to visit U.S.A., the wonderful country of great opportunities
It is a dream of 46 to 48 years.
In God We Trust.   So, if HE is willing, one day I will see you, all.
Thanks again

It would be fun to host a visitor from India here too.  Several years ago an Indian Naval ship, the INS Tarangini came to port here, we toured the ship and got pictures with all the sailors.  Amazingly they were all quite fluent in English, and not surprisingly, they were a lot taller than the sailors even from Europe.

Well first I would have to book a flight to Australia (free room and board all over that country with great friends) and spend some time in the out back. Then it would be on to New Zealand for a little rest and relaxation. (Darn Aussie probably will wear me out). From there it would be the Netherlands, Croatia and many of the Russian states. If I have any free flights left I will add accordingly but would like to stop in Alaska on the way back. Oh yeah, I forgot, Old Dan and the CoinCrusader will be coming with me so stock up on groceries and booze!!! ;D
