You Won't Believe This!!
July 21, 2008, 09:27:43 AM
Just returned from New York City where we did the usual tourist things, as well as watch a Mets game, a Yankees game, and took a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown.

I had asked for suggestions of coin stores in New York City.  One member suggested Stacks.

Our hotel was located on West 57th, and guess what business was right next door -- Stacks!!

My daughter (Medicmichelle) and I decided to check it out.  I expected to have to ring a bell, and then be ignored once inside.  Not at all.  We walked right in and were greeted pleasantly.  When I explained we just wanted to look around, we were told that was fine, and just ask if we had questions.  As we were about to leave, we each were given a Stacks keychain with attached loupe.

Very nice experience.

 :D :D :D :D

It sounds like a nice trip! I keep hearing good reports from Stacks. Whenever I get to NYC, I'll be sure to visit.

Definitely sounds like a good trip. And a good experience at Stacks too. Did you get to see any rarities?

I've always heard good things about Stack's too.

Did you ride in any NYC cabs or the subway? That's always a memorable experience.  ;D

Rode the cabs about 10 times.

As I found back in 1999 when I was in NYC, they (drivers) aren't very talkative.  Nor have many mastered the King's English very well.

For lengthy trips we took the subway.  Going to and from Yankee Stadium, we had no fear because we were among so many baseball fans.

The toughest situation came when we returned to Manhattan from Yankee Stadium.  When we reached Time's Square the subway station was really packed.  It had been 95 with high humidity that day, and we were all sweating like crazy.  Only one objective, and that was to get to the hotel and take off the shoes.

I'm happy not to be able to report any horror stories.  People were friendly, although I'm not sure if they were New Yorkers or tourists like us.  In fairness, we were treated well by New Yorkers.  We asked some to take pictures of us at certain sites, and they always were happy to comply with the request.

I doubt I'll ever return to New York City.  It seems to be more for the young and flexible.  I'm still trying to get my knees and feet to stop hurting.

I'm pleased we went, but after we save enough for the next vacation, it will probably be to a low key, kick back, location.  The wife would like to spend a week in some small New England town in the fall.  Or maybe a houseboat on Lake Powell.

As mentioned, our trip was an interesting experience, and it was nice spending the vacation with a part of the family.  However, after a week in NYC with high temperatures and high humidity, and then 100 degree Phoenix, Delta, Colorado looked pretty darn good.

I would think a sports writer would want to spend a few days in INDY? Then you could find out the truth about Hoosier Hospitality! Oh, I did manage to suck up two free tickets to the Brickyard 400 this Sunday. Just don't know if I want to spend that much time outside in the heat and humidity. And, as always, they are forecasting a chance for morning showers. If I go it will rain and if I choose to stay home it will be the best race day they have ever had! Murphy's Law pretty much rides along with me!!! ;D

QDB and the rest of the former ANR folks are at the New Hampshire office.
Except for John Kraljevich who is a Colonial dealer, also in NYC.

Rarities?  Sure, most of what they had.  Nothing I could afford.

Of interest, Stacks shares the exact same address as our hotel -- 123 West 57th Avenue.  In fact, there's a back entrance to the coin store, accessable from our hotel (The Salisbury).

Twoshadows, ever since I was in elementary school (dinosaurs walked the earth) I have wanted to see the Indy 500.  I still retain that hope, that I might see the brickyard before I head for the Great Beyond.

Well Gary that someday could be now! All you got to do is get into Indianapolis before Sunday and I have a ticket to the Brickyard 400 reserved just for you. (4th turn at the Greatest Track in the World) Of course we would have to spend most of the weekend up there so you could see what Hoosier Hospitality is all about! Fly in Friday evening or anytime Saturday! I will pick you up and the seat in the 4th turn is yours. If you can make it we can work out all the details but one thing is for certain I DO have the extra ticket!!!

And of course, if you want to pay for gasoline or diesel fuel, HIT THE ROAD!!!

I have talked with Twoshadows on the phone, and explained why I was unable to accept his offer.

I would like to state this -- it was one of the kindest, most generous offers I ever received, and I thank both of the Indiana Terrys for their offer.

What a great group of people we have in KOTCT!!!!

Could not have asked a better man to have that seat beside me! And, of course, TKO was already plotting a weekend that CoinCrusader would never forget. Between the both of us our ole buddy in Colorado would have gotten a whole new insight into Indiana. Like they say here, "There is MORE than CORN in Indiana and I am pretty sure TKO knows exactly what they are talking about? Now me, still as innocent as a new born baby! ;D

We will plan ahead next year and see that Gary finally gets to kiss our bricks!!! ;D
