Help Needed To ID
May 10, 2008, 11:09:10 AM
This will probably be a tough one, if not impossible.

But, here goes.

A clerk at a local convenience store found a foreign coin in a roll of quarters today.  She asked me what country it was from.  I had no idea.

I don't have the coin with me as she is very taken by it and wants to keep it with her to show friends.

Basically, there is a portrait on the obverse, and what looks like a pagoda on the reverse.  I didn't recognize the language used.  On the reverse is "UM 5," which I suppose is the denomination.

Just from looking at the portrait of the man on the obverse, I guessed Singapore, but I really have no idea.

If anybody can help identify the country the coin is from, the owner would be thrilled to know.  It would interest me also.

Thanks.
