Brasil
November 07, 2015, 11:52:55 PM
Among other coins, Brasil is commemorating the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with a series of commemorative circulation 1 Real coins.
It began in 2012 with ''Olympic Flag Handover.''
In 2014, the main series began. It will end in 2016. There will be sixteen 1 Real coins depicting different Olympic and Paralymic sports. The 1 Real CC are being issued in groups of four coins ( August 2014, February and August 2015, February 2016).
Considering that Brasil has been very frugal in issuing commemorative circulation coins during the last 20 years this is a major undertaking.

In 2015, there also was a 1 Real CC commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Brasil's central bank.

All 1 Real coins have the same obverse (or reverse, depending on your point of view what is what).

Here are the pictures...

Nice series of coins. A little like the U.K. 50p series. :)

Me too, if they are circulating coins. :)

Actually, the Brits ''borrowed'' the idea of the 50p series from the Canadians who had a series of CC Quarters for the Vancouver Winter Olympics. I might post pictures of the Canadian Series soon.

Yes, all these 1 Real coins are circulating coins. The mintage for the ones with the sports motives is 20.000.000 each (IIRC); the 50th Anniversary 1 Real has a mintage of 50.000.000.
Even for a large and populous country like Brasil, 20.000.000 is a rather high figure.

When I got the ''Flag 1 Real'' exchange rate was 1 Real=0,42 Euro Cent. Currently, it's 1 Real=0,24 Euro Cent. Obviously, the economy is not doing well in Brasil these days...
