2007 Special Edition Limited 5,000
November 05, 2007, 02:03:26 AM
I received an email from the RCM regarding this coin. I'm not sure whether this is the edition that always increase in value. I know 2 years back I bought their Red Enamel flag (5000) coin and it went over $300 within a year or so. Anyone else familiar with this?

I've bought directly from the Canadian mint, several times.  Always very nice, more so than purchasing from the US mint, in my opinion.  Of the things I've purchased, I love the set of tokens that came out with the Poppy Quarter, and the $3 square beaver coin of last year.  Definitely worth the effort. :)

I love these snowflake coins, I'm just not ready to pay the $100 price tag that comes with them.  :(

Do add this coin to my collection?

Price is what's holding me back. They have 2 coins with 5,000 limited mintages and each one CDN 95 approx. So I haven't made a decision ::)

When it comes to buying DARKSIDE coins I watch mintage very closely. I actually have one modern day silver commemorative (New Zealand) with a mintage of 1,400 if I remember correctly and to top it all off it commemorates an event that never happened. Well it did but it was postponed until the next year due to the 9-11 attacks. Also have a couple of commemoratives with less than a 1000 minted. Needless to say the country of origin does play a role, regardless of mintage, when it comes to commemoratives but I still watch for those low numbers!

A beautiful coin.

However, in my mind, there comes a point where I can't call certain products a "coin."  I guess it depends on your definition of what a coin is.  This one, and so many others, will never trade hands in return for  merchandise or a service.  So, we aren't really looking at a coin, we're looking at a "piece of artwork."  And, it's well beyond my budget.
