Air Show

Several family members and I attended the Air Show in Grand Junction, Colorado today.  It was the fourth GJ  Air Show I've attended over the years.

It's nice to have a lesser populated part of the country hold such shows.  People came from all over Colorado, eastern Utah, Wyoming and some Southwestern states.

The Blue Angels, two F-15's, two F-16's, a Mig, as well as many stunt planes and static displays.

Quite entertaining.  The kids (grandkids) especially loved it.

Good stuff, Gary.  I miss the smell of the burnt fuel and the roar of the jet engines
even though I left the RAAF 40 years ago.
My greatest experience was a ride (somewhat illegaly) in a RAF Vulcan bomber. It
was part  of an air display over Darwin in 1964. I was strapped into the bomb aimers seat and told to keep my mouth shut. Probably the greatest 15 minutes of my life.
Those big buggers could almost climb vertically. Never got caught!!
They used to make the hangers vibrate when they did a low level run over the airport at speed.

Know the feeling, or should I say smell, Muckeye.  That burnt kerosene (Avcat) type odour and the occassional Avgas whif.  Get it at the airport sometimes.

I used to love airshows, well being that I am an AF brat, it was the highlight of the year.  I haven't been to one since 1993, the Wings over Houston show though.  During that show I saw two planes crash, and airshows have not been something I have wanted to see since.

One of our sons was invited by a military relative to have a close look at some new types of planes.  Our son was told that the planes he looked at didn't exist.

I saw a crash about three air shows ago.  A stunt pilot did a roll and then disappeared down over a hill  The good news is that he walked away from the plane, later rebuilt it, and flew it out of town.

As an AF Brat, I saw planes that didn't exist, even sat in a couple of them.  One of them now exists since it is officially retired; or so they say.  But the other one still doesn't exist, even all these years later.
