Do We Have Any YN's here?
September 19, 2008, 09:24:47 AM
I like to have contests, but admittedly I like to corrupt young minds with coins, and not us "experienced" types.  Do we have any of them here?  No, you cannot claim immaturity either, since I am excluding myself from the contest, so shall you "experienced" types be too. :'(

Erik is a Young Numismatist, and I believe that Justabeginner qualifies as well.  I'm not certain of others.

Do add this coin to my collection?

Yeah...and I think Erik's off-the-grid due to being wrapped up in school. I just heard from him by email.

I know another followed me over from that "other" forum, Dustin43160, but I haven't seen him here in a while.

How young is young? I think I was included in the young category last time.

This might also give you an idea of who some of the other younger members are.

I'm only 50, that makes me young when compared to some of you. LOL

Probably still wont qualify? ;)

I'm nearly to the 3/4 Century mark!!

We have two YN's, but they aren't members.

They are two of our grandkids who live in Delta (Colorado) near us.

Both are members of CCF, and both like to read posts on KOTCT.  They would like to be members, but I have felt they are still a little young.

Daniel is in the third grade and Tricia is a fifth grader.

A bit like Snooba's young Prawn over here in Oz, thought he's a bit older. About
twelve I think.
You will be please to know I had an email from Snooba today, she's a lot better and thinks she will be back posting real soon.

I really wish that twoshadows, Kitty, humpbong, OldDan, and others would get their heads together and come up with an idea whereby we can work with YN's, and make them a part of KOTCT, until the day arrives they can graduate and become members.

I'm sure Prawn would fit right in, as would Coin Girl and Coin Boy.

I think that a thread pertaining to little workshops managed by the experienced would be nice. Have it about coins, grading, do's and don'ts, who to seek and steer clear of when looking for a coin, etc.

Just a thought....

I have three of them myself, the older two are more interested in members of the opposite attractions now than coins.  The 4 year old loves all money still, but is too young to type, she is trying though.

I've got two YN's myself.  One only like the kind of coins he can spend on Legos and Hot Wheels.  The other enjoys roll searching with me and finding foreign coins.  I'm going to have to get her an album soon.

Prawn is already a member of The Mom & Dad Site group.. At his age he is very literate
and quite responsible regarding mixing it with the adults. Naturally the juniors
need the odd bit of supervision. Snooba is very proud of him and I consider him mature enuf to have sent him a few coins on several occasions.
Tha acceptance of younger ones, say below ten, would be subject to their supervision by their parent/guardian. But the more the merrier.

Personally, I feel our YNs should have a visual icon to remind all members that they are indeed a YN.  I know that if I was aware that I was speaking to a younger member, the information I might share about a coin or coins would be in greater detail, than if I was speaking to someone who had been collecting years longer than myself.

I don't think age should limit a person's membership to this forum, provided they can read and type, and be understood. :)

Do add this coin to my collection?

Tricia and Daniel also belong to CCF -- their names being "Coin Girl," and "Coin Boy."  Very intelligent (What else would their grandfather say?), and great readers, they could probably handle membership in KOTCT.

I'm thinking of waiting for summer to roll around, and then perhaps supporting their membership.

I don't see any problem in having young members. We all have to learn from somewhere, and I don't recall reading any posts that would be offensive. The liar's bench is probably the one area that may from time to time be a bit spicy, but even then, I haven't seen anything too out there.
