Internal KOTCT PMs and collector courtesy
September 07, 2008, 05:33:45 AM
Hi,
I'm just putting this out there, because I've noticed some odd things happen with internal KOTCT email.
There have been a few times where I sent a messages to members who expressed interest in a trade, but I never heard back.
It may well be the person simply chooses not to respond, but alternatively I have no way to confirm messages went through or were read.
And, other times I've been notified of PMs by regular email, but when I drop by KOTCT, I cannot find a PM for me.  ??? (my normal email is hidden)

Perhaps this is simply a technical glitch, but if this is a matter of etiquette, may I offer a suggestion?
If you initiated an interest in trades on the board, and a member contacts you, please let them know either way--even a simple "no thanks" would be nice. Otherwise, they may follow through on their end of a trade (such as buying coins for you) and are later "left in the lurch".

What do others think?  :)

Kurt, me and Miss ElleKitty just went thru the same thing with emails and PM's. She says she knows for sure she sent me some PM's for a trade we're doing, but I never saw them. Where'd they go? Who knows. So much for modern technology!!! ;D

In a way, that's reassuring.  ;D  But I'm disinclined to resend emails. In the future, I'll just note my PMs in the trading thread.

Kurt,
I'm wondering if I could be the person you are referring to. I got a notification of your PM on the stones but like you said it never showed up here on KOTCT. I sent a reply also through the website several days ago and didn't hear back. Perhaps it never made it? If this is the case I can resend it. I've probably got your direct email floating around somewhere...

A read receipt would be nice that way you know the person got the mail.
AOL and Yahoo regularly black list my e-mail address and people I send mail to never get the message.
Using the Forum PM system is usually more reliable at least for me than regular e-mail....

Arthrene, no it wasn't you  :) yet I apologize for being rather vague here. I'm just trying to find a way to avoid possible confusion with trades.

Btw, did you receive my email I sent on Friday? I can resend that if it never arrived.

I admit, I can be guilty of delay, but NOT never responding.  Sometimes I take a few days, particularly if I do not notice the inbox, and I have been guilty of that.

Like nohope, I find the PM's to be more reliable and easy than the e-mails.

There has been a very odd situation with the PMs and Emails as of late.  I know of several cases where emails or PMs were sent, and they never reached the sendee.  Perhaps this is something we should ask TKO to look into?

Perhaps also, until this can be resolved, we should resort to public threads to discuss our trades.

Do add this coin to my collection?

It's very reassuring to get such a quick response on our forum.  :)

I believe you--I think there's simply something funky afoot.  :)
If you liked that emerald, you could have a pair--which might be more useful.
(I just found another the same size and shape). Want that too? I'm sure we'll figure out a nice trade.

Arthrene,
How confusing--and I sent that directly from Yahoo to your Hotmail acct.
Seems the problem is bigger than the internal PM. It may just be best to post here.

I think that two emeralds are always better than one.  However, might you save up more than one stone, and save on shipping?  And, I still need to know what sorts of coins to send your way.. although I may do a surprise package for you. ;)

Do add this coin to my collection?

Right--these could be actually worn as a pair--same shape, weight and color. I could easily mail the second for cheap--or with another item.  :)
Judging from your pics, you seem to have an interesting group of coins. If you have a list or photos of possible trades that would be nice to see. If I were to value the pair of emeralds, I think $15 is a fair equivalent trade.

Allow me a bit of time to rummage through, find what I can to send.  What kinds of coins interest you in particular? Theme, country, time period?

I also have had problems recently with PM's.

Numismatty and I want to deal for a pair of English Crowns, but he has problems getting my PM's, and I haven't received some he has sent.

Thanks, and there's no rush--as you have time.  :)
I collect Aus. pre-decimal and generally any pre-1950 world coins interest me, especially anything of an intriguing design or with historical interest.
I have a hard time finding any pre-1900 world coins here. I usually come to a quick decision once I see a coin I like.  ;D

Hmmm... Speaking of Numismatty, I sent him a PM a while back, shortly after he posted a list of old Enlgish coins for sale. I assumed that maybe someone beat me to it, but after reading this thread, maybe my PM didn't go through :(

I have found it is just as easy and almost fool proof to click on the member list and email them from there. Seems mine always go through so the system must being doing its job from that end of our spectrum. If there is something I feel is worthy of a guaranteed delivery I like to resort to my personal email as I tend to go there first before ever coming here. Don't know why, just habit I guess!

I refused my provider's service to block spam ; I only allowed him to mark it spam which goes strait to a spam file on my computer
Once in a while especially with odd ebay answers I find a good message in the spam file
These filters are the source of a lot of lost emails .
Last week I updated my email on this forum since my provider is being taken over faster then I can follow .

Where I am going I ain't certain
Where I am going I don't know
All I know is that I'am on my way

*dies laughing* crystal64 is Twoshadows Terry!  He's probably very confused.  His email is the one that is automatically attached to any emails sent through the website.  Maybe this is why we're losing so many replies these days.
