Old Dan, never ever put coins on the customs ticket.  You aren't sending money, you're sending Hobby Pieces, or Hobby Supplies.   You've got to be careful even putting Numismatic supplies, as some thieves have gotten smarter over the years and now know what Numismatic even means.

Stick with Hobby Supplies.  That's what I use most often on the customs ticket.

The last few coins I received were sent by DHL as documents from South America .
Even Austrians are sending me now huge Envelopes marked documents do not fold .
On the other hand I just bought a book in England and the customery thumb was used to rip open a corner and to look inside ;
since the nightshift probably does not speak flemish and certainly not english the book arrived without problem .
Postage over here has gone up again in such a way that it is no longer viable to insure most anything
40 $ for an insured lettre at 750 $ is pretty steep inside of europe without any custom declarations

A couple other things.

I recently mailed a fairly large package to Snooba, in Australia, and I was required to make out a customs form.

Each time I send small packages to Australia, I am not asked to make out a form.

So, evidentally, the size of the package is what makes the customs determination -- at least here in good old Delta.

I always put "Hobby Supplies" on the customs forms, and haven't lost any packages yet.

In Most Countries, the Postal Rules say that
coins and valuables should be sent by Insured Mail Only.   In case of insurance, the USPS has to refund the insured value.
A very good friend of mine in Florida, who has helped me with 1893-S Morgan has kindly sent a
Prez.  Donsco Album with Sacagawea PD Dollars 2001 to 2007 (Got from Mint Sets) and other Prez. Dollars by Insured Parcel.
They were 'Swalloed' by the Postal Thieves., in India.
The same Gentleman has sent me 5 Barber Halves by Registered Post and they were  also stolen.
USPS has not reiumbursed the Insured Value to him
Another friend in Florida, got reiumbursement for the coins 'damaged and stolen in California' and returned back to him....adressed to me.   This package is only a Registered Mail
