The oil co.s are profiteering whence oil really is significantly higher in price, but the prices of petrol at the filling station are much higher by comparison.  All of the companies have been reporting egregiously enormous profits recently.  If you don't want to complain, at least be able to buy stock.

I just like the show the monkeys put on every year in congress, pretending that they "feel our pain" and then  flying free first class to St. Thomas  or some place when the charade  is over.

I rather they didn't "do something"  since it would no doubt just be a  SUV bailout.  I haven't been riding buses and a bicycle for the last five years to give the savings away to a bunch of whinny Ferrel cats who want something for free. What were thinking when they bought those things anyway-- the mileage would get better as the trucks  got older?
Peace in the Middle East would bring prices down to 50cents a gallon?  Really, what were people thinking when they bought these gas guzzlers?

Every so often there's a tad bit of good news.

The Fienstein amendment to the "war funding bill" was defeated in Congress.  Would have provided amnesty for three and a half million.

Lou Dobbs, as well as Fox News, caught it, and evidentally the polliticians gor enough heat that they decided to remove the provision.

I understand the cost of petrol to the A-Rabs is as low as 15 cents a litre.

Anyway, its only a matter of time before we have to look at alternatives.  Want to stop the wars in the middle east? Stop buying their oil.

No current administration in Washington would take the initiative to fund a viable alternative fuels project.  The answer is NOT biofuels, but more along the lines of what Honda is doing with hybrids.  Detroit only manufactured what the greedy American public wanted, nobody forced people to buy gas guzzlers, they wanted them.  They played, and now they will pay.  Through the freaking nose.

I remember paying through the nose after the '73 embargo. Probably not even 6 months before they hit us with that  I bought a brand new Camaro that got 8 mpg.  Even the Hunt brothers could not have screwed up better than that--and they were pretty good at it.

But  I never forgot that, never bought another gas guzzler  and I'm really at a loss to understand  why  anyone would  ::)

I even owned a couple of mopeds for awhile--about 30,000 miles worth. I remember people just laughing themselves silly about them. Wonder how funny it would be now?

I barely remember the '73 embargo, my mother owned a 1964 Ford Galaxy 500, a boat of a car.  I do vaguely remember waiting in gas lines a couple of times, shortly afterwards she traded it in for a '73 Alfa Spider convertible.  I hated that car.

But l loved this one that my Gram bought at the same time:

An MGB convertible, just a wonderful car.  She sold it when it was something like 5 years old and only had about 4k miles on it.  :'(

We had a Galaxy 500 too but it was before the embargo. That sucker burned a gallon of gas just starting it up.  :o

This is my first moped--150 miles to the gallon. When it needed a "tune up" you  just bent over and pulled the plug out and put a $2 plug in rather than paying a garage $2,000 to pull the motor out.

Getting local reports of SUV's having very little $ value- sitting on the used and new car lots.
Old Honda civic $ values climbed about 15% over the last month.

I cringe at the thought of the pickup truck I sold back in 2006 would today cost $150.00 to fill.

"But senators at the Judiciary Committee hearing weren't having any of that. They wanted to press the executives about public anguish over paying $60 or more to fill up a car's gas tank."

I guess Big Ben and his  Inflation figures R us  came up with that  $60 base figure. Maybe he'll get lost in his house of mirrors and starve to death before everyone else in the country does.  >:(
