Crown-size coins do have a certain appeal. For one thing, when you hold it in your hand, it really feels like a "meaty hunk of metal", not like the lightweight aluminum and zinc coins around these days.
For another, their size allows for some beautiful designs. I have a 1973 Bahamian Independence Proof, that is a whopping 50mm diameter, and weighs just under an ounce and a half of fine sterling. The details are stunning.
