NEXT I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT A 1779 SILVER COIN USED AS ONE OF OUR FIRST SILVER DOLLARS----NEXT IS A COLONIA 6P AND LAST IS AN  1864 FRENCH COIN WITH NEPOLEON III ON IT..THEY LOOK GOOD FOR THEIR AGES............THESE MAY HAVE BEEN CLEANED OR WIPED BY THEIR PREVIOUS OWNERS...

Thanks for the pics Templar. I like the 1779 Pieces of eight. It was a new one to me, and had to read about it after seeing the picture. It seems that there are a lot of really nice ones for sale on ebay right now which are NGC certified from the El Cazador Shipwreck. I just might have to pick one up.

Unless you are specifically interested in Shipwreck coins, the prices paid for silver cobs is very high.  You can get raw cobs for much less money.  I highly recommend Daniel Sedwick's website, where he has both information and coins for sale.

As always, I recommend reading before purchasing.  If you have questions, I may be able to help you out!  Silver cobs have become one of my collecting interests, and one of the few areas where I am still actively purchasing coins.

Thank you for the info. Those are some very cool coins that you posted. The Daniel Sedwick site is very interesting, and there is some very cool "treasure" on that site. As far as being specifically interested in shipwreck coins, my interests jump around quite a bit to things that have an interesting history to them. The 8 Reales that Templar posted hits home being the first silver dollar used in the US. While doing a little more research on them, I found the story of the El Cazador Shipwreck coins, and that caught my interest. It seems that I can get the history of both in one coin I am a little hesitant to buy a non-graded 8 Reales yet, since I do not believe that I could spot a good fake, and they seem to be faked a lot. As far as the silver cobs, I think you may have opened a new can of worms for me with that last post. The coins on the Sedwick site are very interesting Hmmmm, new collection - I think so.

How much of a premium do they add, just because it came from a shipwreck?

THESE BARS ARE MADE FROM LARGER BARS THAT WERE MELTED DOWN INTO THE 10 OUNCE BAR AND STAMPED WITH THE BOAT'S PICTURE---I BELIEVE THEY WERE +2 OVER SPOT--THE ORIGINAL SHIPMENT HAD MUCH LARGER BARS AS THESE WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPRACTICLE TO SHIP SUCH SMALL PIECES--------I FOUND THE SITE BY TYPING IN THE SHIP'S NAME AND THEY GAVE VASRIOUS SITES----HOPE THIS HELPS
