July 30, 2013, 01:33:58 PM
I was at my local coin club meeting a week ago and they had a members auction.

Managed to pick up the following German inflation banknotes from 1922-1923.

Here's one you missed, Barry. Lot #11, the counterstamped note. Originally issued at 1000 mark, later counterstamped and reissued at 1,000,000,000 mark.

The counterstamp is not dated, but it's fair to assume it was done at about the same time as the issue of "regular" 1 milliard mark notes (the earliest of which is dated 5th Sept 1923). My 1985 edition Pick catalogue gives a date for the counterstamp of September 1923. The date of the original 1000 mark note was 15th Dec 1922.

I thought to have been withdrawn from circulation after start inflation in Germany. If they dont used before stamped then It means these notes could be in perfect condition.
